About the Role

This role is central to our credit decisioning strategy. You’ll help build and improve the models that power underwriting, credit risk assessment, and early delinquency prediction. Your work will shape who we approve, how we price, and how we support customers throughout their financial journey.

This role is a great fit for data scientists who enjoy modeling, analytics, and problem-solving — and who want to see their work directly influence business decisions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build and enhance credit risk ML models that improve predictability and customer outcomes.
  • Explore large datasets to uncover trends, identify key credit drivers, and generate insights that inform model design.
  • Support the full modeling lifecycle: data preparation, feature engineering, model development, evaluation, deployment, and clear documentation of results.
  • Run structured experiments and challenger models to test new ideas and improve performance.
  • Translate analytical findings into recommendations for Credit Strategy, Pricing, and other business partners.
  • Help monitor production model performance, including stability metrics, drift detection, and performance diagnostics.
  • Contribute to audit-ready documentation and support model validation and governance processes.
  • Leverage modern AI and data tools to improve your workflow, enhance modeling velocity, and elevate best practices across the team.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure models are explainable, transparent, and aligned with business goals and regulatory expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, etc.).
  • 1–3+ years of experience developing predictive models or performing advanced analytics (internships and co-ops count).
  • Strong understanding of statistical modeling and machine learning fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in Python (e.g., pandas, numpy, scikit-learn) and SQL.
  • Experience working with large datasets and building models end-to-end.
  • Ability to clearly communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ownership, curiosity, and ability to deliver high-quality results.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in credit risk, lending, or financial services modeling.
  • Exposure to cloud environments or modern data tooling.
  • Familiarity with model monitoring, validation, or model governance concepts.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Interest in using generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to accelerate modeling and analysis.
