At Robots & Pencils, we build meaningful, scalable digital products that solve real business problems. We are seeking a Data Engineer for a contract role that will support the design, development, and deployment of data pipelines and infrastructure within a Databricks Lakehouse environment. This role will be instrumental in building scalable ingestion and transformation pipelines, enabling trusted financial reporting, and establishing a strong foundation for future analytics.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable data pipelines
- Build and manage data warehouses and data lakes
- Optimize data processing workflows
- Ensure data quality, reliability, and availability
- Implement data modeling and schema design
- Integrate data from multiple systems
- Implement data validation and monitoring
- Collaborate with analytics, AI, and product teams
- Support data governance and compliance efforts
Requirements
- 3–4+ years of experience in data engineering
- Strong SQL and Python/Scala skills
- Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks
- Experience with cloud data platforms
- Knowledge of distributed systems (Spark, Kafka)
- Experience with data warehousing solutions
- Understanding of data modeling techniques
- Knowledge of DevOps practices for data systems
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Ability to work in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
- Detail-oriented with a focus on data quality and accuracy
- Ability to document work clearly and support knowledge transfer
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally
Nice to Have
- Experience with DBT
- Experience with streaming platforms
- Experience with real-time data processing
- Knowledge of data security and compliance
- Exposure to MLOps
- BI tool integration (Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
