About the Role
Redhorse is seeking a highly motivated and curious Data Engineer to join our team supporting the US National Defense Strategy. You will play a vital role in translating complex business requirements into actionable data-driven insights, impacting national security by directly contributing to the modernization of critical defense systems. Key Responsibilities
- Requirements Development & Analysis: Work directly with government customers and stakeholders to elicit clear data requirements; identify gaps in requirements and propose well-designed solutions; translate business needs into detailed technical specifications and interface designs.
- Pipeline & Platform Development: Design, develop, and optimize ETL/ELT workflows using Databricks; maintain and enhance existing Python and SQL codebases; debug, troubleshoot, and resolve defects in data processing pipelines.
- Data Visualization & UI/UX: Create intuitive dashboards and reports using best practices to clearly communicate insights to diverse audiences; design user interfaces that guide users naturally through data insights, ensuring a seamless user experience.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with government customers, other data engineers, and product teams; clearly document designs, code changes, and data models; present findings and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Experience/Clearance
- US citizen with a Secret US government clearance. Applicants who are not US Citizens and who do not have a current and active Secret security clearance will not be considered for this role.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer.
- Proven experience building dashboards and reports using data visualization tools.
- Solid skills in Python (including modular code structure).
- Demonstrated experience with Databricks for data cleaning and transformation.
- Strong SQL writing and optimization abilities.
Desired Experience
- Experience with Palantir Foundry
- Object-Oriented Programming patterns
- Experience with PySpark or other big data processing frameworks
- Familiarity with common BI tools (e.g., Qlik, Power BI, Tableau)
- Front-end development experience with React
