We are seeking a technically skilled Data Engineer 2 to deliver integrated Medicare Advantage risk adjustment solutions that leverage data and technology to empower members, providers, and Humana. This role requires collaboration with high-performing teams including business stakeholders and engineers and building and maintaining data processing architectures and solutions for Prospective risk adjustment initiatives related to In-Home Wellness Assessments (IHWA) and Provider Programs. Because the needs of our business segment change frequently, assignments are varied and often require interpretation. This position requires developing a solid general knowledge of the business, including how operations work and primary points of contact.

Key responsibilities:

  • Write and maintain modular code for automation, including SQL stored procedures and ETLs, in accordance with best practices
  • Regular pair programming sessions and code reviews of medium scale work
  • Thoroughly testing and clearly documenting code, and explaining details of the work
  • Develop an understanding of the team’s underlying technology stack – primarily Python, SQL, and cloud native platforms
  • Research bugs/breaks and makes necessary adjustments and/or recommendations to resolve software related issues
  • Transform data into insights and actions that enable Humana to better serve our members
  • Develop an understanding of department, segment, and organizational strategy and operating objectives, including their linkages to related areas
  • Work with Business Intelligence and Software engineers to ensure code is optimized for performance and the right tools are being used for the right jobs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 2 years technical experience in data engineering.
  • Understand the concepts of normalized relational data structures.
  • Ability to analyze data to address diverse business needs, and design solutions for data movement and orchestration aligned to strategic goals.
  • Proficiency in SQL database design, optimization, and ETL support.
  • Experience with modular and reusable code development.
  • Strong understanding of star schema, snowflake schema, data architecture and design principles.
  • Experience working in the multiple cloud ecosystem (ADLS/Databricks/ADF/ASA, Snowflake) or other cloud-based platforms.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and translate requirements between business, project management and technical projects or programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas effectively in both written and oral forms.
  • Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Medicare Advantage Risk Adjustment programs including IHWA and Provider Programs.
  • Familiarity with Humana’s internal operations, policies, and systems.
  • Understanding of Humana compliance and security standards (EIP, EA).

Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership.
Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.
Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$89,000 - $121,400 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
