Job Summary:
The Data Engineer plays a critical role in managing and processing data to support our organization's analytical and operational needs. This position involves working with data pipelines, databases, and architectures to ensure data quality and accessibility.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Analyze raw data from various sources
- Develop and maintain datasets, schemas and models
- Improve data quality and efficiency
- Document data flows and mappings
- Collaborate with data analysts, scientists and other stakeholders
- Duties are performed via a government approved computer system. Employees are required to possess strong computer skills in MS Word and Excel.
- Perform related duties as assigned, within your scope of practice – management reserves the right to revise these duties as necessary
- Develop internal/external reports
- Assist with buildout of data dictionary
- Analyze data sets to ensure alignment to overall organizational focus
- Advise on updated reporting to capture data through mapping and format it in a useable format that can be easily interpreted by other departments
- Bring innovation and creativity to legacy technologies and programs to drive/shift changes
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field
- Minimum of five (5) or more years experience in a data engineering role; management experience a plus.
- Knowledge of data structures, algorithms and programming languages with preference for SQL, Python, and R.
- Experience with PowerBI
- Experience in data engineering, development or analysis
- Experience with Azure platform
- Knowledge of data security and compliance (data encryption; access control; data masking; handling PII safely)
- Proficiency in database systems, tools and frameworks
- Data visualization, communication and presentation skills
- Must possess strong computer skills in MS Office, including Excel, Word, Teams
- Ability to type 45 wpm
Clearance:
- The applicants selected will be subject to a government background investigation and may be required to meet the following conditions of employment.
Security Requirements:
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Security Clearance.
- Favorable credit check for all cleared positions.
- Successfully pass a background investigation, drug screen.
- May be required to pass or present specific requirements depending on the position (i.e., DOT exam, vaccinations, CPR, flu shot).
- US Citizenship
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Consider the position at hand (i.e., lifting, pushing, and pulling will not be very necessary). Percentages should be modified to reflect the necessity for each position.
Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must have the mobility to attend meetings with other managers and employees.
Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0% - 10% of the time.
Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0% - 10% of the time.
Fine Motor Skills/Dexterity: Must be able to write, type and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
Sitting: Sitting for prolonged and extended periods of time.
