About the team

Our Research Data Products team is at the forefront of insights innovation. Our team leverages technical expertise in data science, engineering, and solutions development to support a high-impact team of 90+ quantitative and qualitative researchers across the globe. We enable cutting-edge research through frameworks, data products and technologies designed to help answer Netflix’s most complex business challenges through consumer-driven analytics.

About the Role

As a Data Engineer, you will develop and maintain complex data models for Netflix Surveys and our Research Platform that enable this data to be accessed and further processed by teams to feed data products and ensure reliable insights about our consumers are widely available across the company.  You’ll help pave the paths for these data products in partnership with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, data scientists, and researchers.

What You Will Do:

  • Architect, strengthen, and expand the core data products that enable Consumer Research at Netflix.

  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines to manage and transform large amounts of survey, social, and behavioral data that make consumer insights widely available across the company

  • Fully own critical portions of Netflix's Research data products. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs, model tables using engineering and data warehouse best practices, and develop large scale data processing solutions to ensure the timely delivery of high quality data.

  • Partner with Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers to create data products that will serve analysis and reporting needs intuitively.

  • Develop best practices for governance of data sets with sensitive information

  • Build strong and collaborative partnerships with data scientists, analytics engineers, and researchers.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a skilled, independent, and curious Data Engineer who champions data quality.

  • Proficiency in at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, Scala), with a passion for writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. Python is strongly preferred.

  • Strong SQL expertise.

  • Expertise in data modeling and designing data structures that are adaptable and resilient to business or source system changes.

  • Can design logging for new products with complex behavior or new domains balancing complex analytical needs with simplified logging effectively weighing tradeoffs.

  • Experience with sourcing and modeling data from application APIs

  • A strong commitment to data quality, including experience with data audits, unit testing, and comprehensive documentation.

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical partners (Data Scientists, Engineers, and Product Managers).

  • Curiosity and an eagerness to learn and master new technologies that can have a significant impact.

  • Proven success leading complex technical projects to completion.

  • Ability to operate independently while embracing the Netflix Culture of candid feedback and high collaboration.
