Product Owner: Data & Analytics

The Data & Analytics Product Owner will be accountable for the full life cycle of the data & analytics offerings and supporting routines to help Transformation Enablement scale The Way We Work across the bank.  Our Data & Analytics offerings support multiple customer types, including product owners, agile teams, program leaders, business unit executives, the Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Directors.  Our goal with offerings is to provide end users with transparency and visibility into their adoption of The Way We Work within their team, organization or program, and also support them in taking relevant actions for even deeper adoption. 

Leadership Responsibility

People leader of a small team of data analysts as well as the product owner of a broader team that may include data visualization developers. Is a thought leader and influencer at the Enterprise Level, working directly with senior stakeholders.

Desired experience:

  • Leading people for at least 3 years

  • Experience creating the strategy and building a measurement system to measure enterprise transformation in a way that demonstrates both short term and long-term value and change

  • Experience as a product owner of an agile team

  • Experience working as part of a cross functional leadership team where we all work toward common goals

Data & Analytics Product Owner Accountability Includes

  • Vision & Roadmap: Builds, maintains and communicates the vision and roadmap for multiple data and analytics offerings that support bringing transparency through qualitative and quantitative insights about adoption of The Way We Work at the business unit, team and programmatic level. Many of our Data & Analytics offerings are early in their lifecycle, so comfort with early-stage design, testing and development in addition to continuous improvement of offerings is critical.

  • Customer Focus, Communication & Collaboration: Collaborates with stakeholders across the bank, including members of Transformation Enablement, Strategy, Transformation & Innovation.  Conducts discovery research and testing with various customer groups.  Proactively seeks feedback and is responsive to needs of colleagues and customers

  • Value Driven Decision Making: Makes prioritization decisions based on value, even in a complex and changing environment.  Helps leaders across the bank connect mindsets, behaviors and practices with the results they are seeking.   Identifies and quantifies sources of value using internal and external research and is able to define and build analytical models that connect upstream actions with downstream hard value measures.

  • Continuous Learning & Improvement: Grows and develops a team of data analysts.  Collaborates with product owners on overall end to end experience strategy.  Supports adoption of design, process improvement, agility and change management mindsets, behaviors and practices across team.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience

  • 10 or more years’ proven project and/or product management experience

  • Experience in building and managing data and analytics products in tools such as Power BI or Tableau

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Strong knowledge of agile methodology

  • Certifications or training in the disciplines of agility, change management and/or design thinking

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly an ability to negotiate, influence and gain consensus

  • Regularly communicates verbally and in writing with executive management on status of initiatives, in a professional and understandable manner

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work individually as well as a member of a team

  • Self-motivated, results-driven and well-organized individual

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and work under time constraints in support of various assignments

  • Demonstrated ability to function professionally at many different levels (clients, management and peers)

  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary for business partner relationships within and outside the organization

  • Demonstrated ability to build mutual trust and encourage respect; open to different points of view

  • Master’s degree

Work Arrangement:

  • We believe that our “office” may be anywhere our customers and employees live, work and play.  So while our team members may not be required to come into an office on a set schedule, we are expected to engage in purposeful, in-person collaboration and to be active participants in the M&T community and the communities we serve. 

  • This will be a hybrid position (part in-office/part remote) that includes time spent working in-office at an M&T Bank office location, preferably in the Buffalo, NY, New York, NY, Boston, MA, Bridgeport, CT, Baltimore, MD, or Wilmington, DE areas.  Depending upon the location of the final candidate and the needs of the team the position might be hybrid or possibly remote within the M&T Bank footprint (CT, DE, ME, MD, MA, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT, VA or DC), with travel required as referenced below.

Anticipated Travel:

  • Employees in this position should be prepared to travel on a monthly basis within the M&T Bank east coast footprint, primarily to Buffalo, NY or Boston, MA.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $118,945.80 - $198,243.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
