About the role
Data is central to The Athletic’s decision-making process—it guides how we build and market our product, as well as how we produce content. We’re looking for a Data Analyst who will be conducting experiments on user behavior, guiding feature creation for our product, answering high-impact strategic questions for our leaders, and scaling analytics tools and methodologies for our team. You’ll be collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, and Data Science to deliver insights that shape the user experience and drive engagement.
This role is 100% remote for candidates currently residing in either the United States or Canada.
Responsibilities
- Inform our product strategy by developing a deep understanding of sports media, our users, and how they engage with our product.
- Communicate with and advise a variety of stakeholders in the product org.
- Establish a relationship and build trust between them and our team.
- Work closely with product managers to provide insights into user behavior and feature performance and help iterate on products that are loved by our users.
- Build and own self-service analytics tools and dashboards and define new metrics to provide better visibility into business performance and improve forecast accuracy.
- Collaborate closely with engineers to implement event tracking, experiments, and data pipelines.
Requirements
- 1-2+ years experience in data analytics for a subscription based or consumer facing digital product.
- Highly analytical mindset and ability to communicate complex analytic concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in SQL and comfortable navigating data to perform a wide range of analyses.
- Experience with analytic and BI tools like DBT, Mode Analytics, Tableau, etc
- Familiarity with concepts and the process of experimentation and A/B testing.
- Familiarity with advanced analytic techniques like segmentation, clustering, regression, power analysis.
- Familiarity with using Python, R, or another scripting language to model data.
The annual base salary range for this role is $85,000 - $95,000 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
