The Cybersecurity Systems Engineer will evaluate security of systems, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with security standards. Responsibilities include working with customers and developing architectural models, maintaining security documentation, and implementing secure practices in software development.
Dark Wolf is looking for a Cybersecurity Systems Engineer to join a collaborative, dynamic team in a fast-paced, innovative mission environment. This position will work hand-in-hand with the customer team as well as external satellite software development contractors. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of information security principles, as well as experience in software development, security engineering, risk management, and compliance. This position is located in either Herndon, VA or Colorado Springs, CO. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting technical evaluations of information systems design, containerized applications, and cloud architecture, ensuring security and operational requirements are mapped directly into the System/Enterprise Architecture.
- Performing vulnerability assessments and architectural risk analysis using automated software and container scanning tools, tracing security controls back to system models.
- Reviewing requests for software installation and conduct technical risk assessments on software implementation, validating changes against the established enterprise baseline.
- Coordinating and tracking security action requests and report status to senior managers, utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to visualize impacts on the overall system lifecycle.
- Analyzing, modifying when necessary, and maintaining the client’s certification to field security approvals by translating complex compliance requirements into architectural models using frameworks such as DODAF, UAF, or TOGAF.
- Conducting and analyzing auditing requirements continuously, ensuring the physical implementation of the DevSecOps pipeline aligns with the digital twin and authoritative system designs.
- Developing and maintaining system models and architectural diagrams utilizing industry-standard tools such as Cameo Enterprise Architecture and Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect.
- 7+ years of experience in IT security, systems engineering, or enterprise architecture within a DevSecOps environment
- Background in secure software development with a strong understanding of how automated CI/CD pipelines integrate into a broader enterprise system architecture
- Experience and enjoyment in working directly with customers to map out technical missions and improve cyber security posture through rigorous engineering design
- Experience authoring and maintaining systems security documentation, architectural viewpoints, and MBSE artifacts
- Experience in generating appropriate security documentation and architectural models to receive proper accreditation from customer security personnel, correcting design shortfalls as they are identified through customer-sponsored reviews
- Strong technical proficiency in MBSE methodologies and hands-on experience with modeling tools like Cameo and Sparx
- Deep understanding of architectural frameworks, specifically DODAF, UAF, or TOGAF, to model complex, secure information systems
- Possesses strong technical skills and analytic ability
- Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related technical field
- IAT Lvl 2 certification (e.g., Security+)
- US Citizenship and active TS/SCI clearance
- Previous experience as an ISSE / ISSM or Lead Systems Architect in a DoD or federal environment
- INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP) certifications.
The estimated salary range for this position is $160,000.00 - $175.000.00, commensurate on experience and technical interview.
This position will be hybrid on-site based out of Herndon, VA or Colorado Springs, Colorado.
