The position translates security and operational requirements into technical specifications and develops and validates system changes and integrations that support protection of staff and student information.
The position applies advanced technical knowledge within approved security, access, and change-management boundaries. It collaborates with IT leadership, system owners, vendors, and managed security service providers (MSSPs). Routine monitoring, maintenance, and end-user support are secondary responsibilities rather than the primary purpose of the position.
Essential Duties/ Major Accountabilities:
Show Up: Be ACCOUNTABLE for our students, ourselves, and our team.
Connect: Develop and maintain TRANSPARENT and HONEST relationships with our students and team
Succeed: Become a STRONG unified team providing students with an INNOVATIVE environment to become productive members of society
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Systems Analysis and Functional Specifications
-
Consult with Infrastructure Services, Application Services, system owners, and users to analyze requirements and determine hardware, software, interface, and cybersecurity-system functional specifications.
-
Analyze existing computer-system functionality, dependencies, data flows, and security requirements; translate identified needs into documented system specifications and technical design requirements.
-
Evaluate technical alternatives and develop design recommendations for new or modified security systems and integrations, subject to leadership approval and change-management requirements.
Security Systems and Program Development
-
Design, develop, document, test, and modify cybersecurity computer systems and integrations based on approved user or system design specifications, including integrations among endpoint protection, identity, messaging-security, and security-management systems.
-
Develop, test, debug, and maintain scripts, programs, and API integrations that implement documented security-system requirements, including automated detection, containment, account-security, and remediation workflows.
-
Analyze system and integration defects; design, develop, and test corrective modifications to computer systems or programs rather than limiting work to execution of existing remediation instructions.
-
Create technical design documentation, program documentation, test plans, validation results, implementation, and rollback specifications for new or modified computer systems and programs.
-
Test developed or modified systems against functional specifications; document defects, revise designs, or programs, and validate corrected functionality before approved production implementation.
Technical Collaboration and Delivery
-
Coordinate technical requirements and system interfaces with Network Specialist, IT Compliance Generalist, Application Services, vendors, and MSSPs.
-
Apply advanced technical knowledge to assigned systems-analysis and development work; seek approval for changes outside delegated authority and escalate significant risks, architectural conflicts, or unresolved technical issues.
-
Maintain traceable records linking functional specifications, technical designs, developed or modified systems, test results, and approved changes.
Security Operations and Support
-
Use and support routine administration of CrowdStrike, Syxsense, Absolute, Abnormal, and other GOAL security platforms; complete approved maintenance and configuration tasks.
-
Monitor dashboards and alerts, perform initial investigation, document findings, and escalate suspicious activity or significant risks to IT leadership or MSSPs.
-
Follow approved incident-response procedures; assist with account recovery, device containment, remediation, and post-incident documentation.
-
Review vulnerability and patch reports; coordinate approved remediation with system owners and track completion. Check security-agent coverage and platform health; assist with deployment, updates, and troubleshooting.
-
Assist with account security, multifactor authentication, access reviews, and compromised-account recovery. Partner with the Network Specialist on routine Cisco Meraki, firewall, DNS-filtering, access-control, and connectivity support.
-
Resolve assigned security and IT support tickets; maintain accurate records. Assist the IT Compliance Generalist with audit evidence, security records, and remediation tracking.
-
Help maintain operational procedures and knowledge-based articles, support staff security-awareness activities, and provide routine status reports.
-
Participate in the assigned Infrastructure Services on-call rotation; follow documented response procedures and coordinate escalation. Perform other related duties assigned by the Director of Infrastructure Services or Chief Information Officer, consistent with the position design.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
-
This position is classified as exempt and is expected to exercise professional judgment and perform duties as necessary to meet organizational and operational needs. Incumbents may be required to participate in after-hours support activities, emergency response efforts, and assigned on-call rotations as determined by department leadership.
-
Employees assigned to an on-call rotation are expected to remain reasonably available to receive and respond to work-related communications within established departmental response expectations. Participation in on-call coverage is considered an essential function of the position and is included within the employee's regular exempt compensation.
-
While on-call, employees may engage in personal activities provided they remain capable of responding within required response timeframes.
