Job Summary
Seeking a Senior Instructional Designer to be responsible for adapting FranklinCovey’s world-class content to meet the specific needs, context, and culture of individual clients. This role partners closely with internal and client-facing teams, to design high-impact learning experiences that drive behavior change and measurable business results. The ideal candidate combines strong instructional design expertise with the ability to quickly understand client objectives, translate FranklinCovey thought leadership into tailored solutions, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
Essential Job Functions
Internal FranklinCovey Projects (Primary Focus)
- Serve as the lead instructional designer for internal projects as assigned by the Custom Operations Manager.
- Design and/or customize learning experiences, content, and tools to support:
- Core and emerging FranklinCovey offerings in partnership with internal teams such as Content/Product, Delivery Consultants, 4DX/HCS, etc.
- The Custom team (e.g., internal processes, toolkits, enablement content, internal training)
Custom Client Projects
- Serve as the instructional designer for Customer projects as assigned by the Custom Operations Manager.
- Collaborate with FC Solution Consultants and clients to adapt core FranklinCovey content for specific client contexts.
- Configure existing content (courses, modules, tools, reinforcement assets) to fit client industry, culture, language, and use cases while preserving FranklinCovey IP and standards.
Quality, Measurement, and Continuous Improvement
- Apply adult learning principles, learning science, and experience design frameworks to ensure all internal and custom solutions drive behavior change and performance outcomes.
- Create clear design artifacts (design documents, outlines, storyboards, wireframes) that guide development, production, and delivery.
- Integrate application and measurement strategies (e.g., practice, reflection, manager involvement, assessments, and on-the-job experiments).
- Gather and use feedback from pilots, Account Teams, Delivery Consultants, internal stakeholders, and client engagements to refine and enhance designs.
- Maintain documentation and version control so that effective internal designs and custom solutions can be reused, scaled, or productized.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Work with the Custom Operations Manager to prioritize and sequence internal projects, estimate effort, and manage timelines.
- Facilitate working sessions, design reviews, and feedback loops with cross-functional partners.
- Communicate design rationale, options, and trade-offs to non-design stakeholders in clear, accessible language.
- Partner closely with internal stakeholders (Content, Delivery, Practices, Marketing, Product, etc.) to clarify needs, recommend design approaches, and align on requirements, scope, timelines, and success criteria.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design
- 7+ years of experience in instructional design or learning experience design, preferably in a corporate, consulting, or professional services environment
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience leading projects that involve net-new design and customization of existing content
- Proven ability to design across multiple modalities (ILT, VILT, digital, blended, microlearning)
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, design thinking)
- Excellent written and visual communication skills, with an ability to simplify complex concepts and create clear, engaging, application-oriented materials.
- Strong project and time-management skills; able to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting
- Comfort collaborating with diverse, cross-functional teams and incorporating feedback into iterative desig
- Proficiency with learning authoring and design tools
- Experience with leadership development, productivity, trust, execution, or culture-change content areas
- Familiarity with FranklinCovey frameworks, models, and brand voice
- Experience partnering with facilitators/delivery consultants and product/content teams
- Proficiency with project management technologies such as Asana, Smartsheets, etc.
