Leidos Engineering has an opportunity for a Cost Schedule Consultant with responsibility for reviewing the capital costs and construction schedules of new and existing power generation projects including wind, solar, hydro, and thermal projects as an Independent Engineer. 

The candidate is a team member supporting project managers during transactional due diligence reviews.  Primary responsibilities include subject matter expertise in overall cost estimating methodologies, scheduling methodologies, overall project execution plans and risks, review of EPC Contract requirements, review equipment supply agreements, providing Owner’s Engineering and Advisory support, and monitoring of construction projects.  Other opportunities within the role may include assisting the team in support of managing projects, developing sales proposals, and technology/bankability reviews.   

Hybrid: This position allows for a Hybrid working setup, with at least three (3) days in person at a Leidos managed office each week.

Location: Ideal candidate would be located within commuting distance of Denver CO or Framingham MA area, although teleworking arrangements will be considered.   

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support project managers during transactional due diligence
  • Subject matter expertise in cost estimating and project scheduling, review of EPC Contract exhibits, and review of project budgets, forecasts, estimates, and schedules. 
  • Providing Owner’s Engineering and Advisory support
  • Assist the team in support of managing projects, developing sales proposals, and technology reviews
  • Other duties as assigned

What Sets You Apart: (Basic Qualifications)

Please note we have the arability to hire at different levels, Basic requirements for each level are listed below:

  • Junior Level: Bachelor's of Science degree in engineering or construction disciplines with two plus (2+) years of experience working on industrial, power delivery, or power generation project design or other relevant experience
  • Mid-Level: Bachelor's of Science degree in engineering or construction disciplines with four plus (4+) years of experience working on industrial, power delivery, or power generation project design or other relevant experience
  • Senior Level: Bachelor's of Science degree in engineering or construction disciplines with eight plus (8+) years of experience working on industrial, power delivery, or power generation project design or other relevant experience
  • Construction experience to include estimating, scheduling, project controls, or project engineering with increasing responsibility.
  • Field engineering experience during the construction of projects.
  • Team player with ability to communicate effectively with internal staff such as Project Manager’s and Subject Matter Experts from other disciplines, as well as with external parties such as Owners, Developers, Lenders, investors and manufacturers. 
  • Experience with project controls, to include estimating, reviewing contractor proposals, reviewing equipment supply agreements, creating, progressing and reviewing project schedules, and overall experience with various phases of construction projects. 
  • Excellent and established oral and written communication skills.
  • General knowledge of construction safety.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
  • Familiar with project scheduling software such as primavera and project. 
  • Self-starter, with the ability to work both independently or as part of a team. 
  • Ability to successfully meet client deadlines under pressure.  Clients requiring subject matter expertise consulting could include private equity, infrastructure and hedge funds, investment and commercial banks, private developers, legal and financial advisors, original equipment manufacturers, DOE, and EIA, among others.
  • Ability to manage schedule commitments related to multiple project reviews at one time.
  • Ability to develop and deliver work product with limited guidance or specification.
  • The position requires travel related to project site visits in support of reviews. Travel could include the potential for international travel.
  • The position can periodically include weeks with extended work hours to support client(s) needs.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the construction of power generation projects, including natural gas combined and simple cycle, wind turbine projects, solar racking/trackers and the pile foundations, and rooftop solar systems is a strong differentiator.
  • Familiarity with review of EPC contracts.
  • Familiarity with project controls, including critical path method schedules and earned value management.

Desired Qualifications:

  • An active FE/EIT certification with aspiration to obtain professional engineering licensure.
  • An active professional engineer’s (PE) license
  • Familiarity with large construction projects – industrial, large commercial, mechanical, and electrical systems, and/or electrical transmission and distribution experience.

Pay Range:Pay Range $67,600.00 - $122,200.00
