It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. The Associate Warden of Programs oversees the programs section, which provides a large variety of program services to the offender population, including case management, chaplaincy services, treatment and rehabilitation programs, work release, volunteer programs, and transitional services. 

• In addition, this position also is responsible for establishing operating procedures and standards for all program services. 
• This position is responsible for ongoing training of staff in areas under his/her supervision. 
• The Associate Warden of Programs participates as a member of the Executive Management Team for planning, development and management of the facility. 
• This position may serve as acting Warden in the absence of the Warden.

Management Preferences:

• Documented skills in supervision and management techniques
• Documented knowledge of supportive counseling or treatment programs
• Documented knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other Public and private programs

Note to Current State Employees: The Salary Grade for this position is NC13. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.   Based upon these factors, a pay increase/decrease MAY result.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of supervisory or management level experience in correctional programs;

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
