Corporate Counsel | Acorns

Acorns is seeking an enthusiastic self-starter to add to our Legal team. We are a company populated with creative and solution-driven individuals, and the Legal team is no exception. The Corporate Counsel will report directly to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and collaborate closely with teams throughout the organization, as well as engage with the leadership team and our broker-dealer, registered investment advisor, and European subsidiaries.

Acorns is a remote-first organization, offering the flexibility to work remotely while providing optional access to office space in New York, NY or Irvine, CA.

What you will do at Acorns:

  • Lead equity administration and corporate governance initiatives, manage board and committee meetings, oversee equity transactions, and serve as primary legal liaison for investor relations

  • Navigate the regulatory landscape across our financial wellness ecosystem (investing, savings, retirement, banking). Ensure compliance with SEC, FINRA, and applicable domestic and international regulations

  • Partner strategically with global product, engineering, and marketing teams to launch innovative financial products for adults and children. Embed legal excellence and risk management from concept to market.

  • Provide strategic legal counsel on AI development and deployment. Balance innovation with regulatory compliance, IP protection, data privacy, and ethical AI principles.

  • Drive additional strategic legal initiatives supporting Acorns’ global growth, innovation and impact.

What you will bring to Acorns:

  • 5+ years of relevant legal work experience in a law firm and/or in-house, preferably in corporate securities / capital financing, M&A, technology transactions, investor relations, corporate governance and equity compensation

  • Ideally, broad corporate and business law experience with a concentration in corporate transactions and governance as well as experience advising clients on a variety of general business matters

  • JD with strong academic credentials from accredited U.S. law school

  • Admission in good standing with at least one state bar, preferably California or New York

  • Clear communicator with excellent writing, analytical and interpersonal skills

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and execution-focused, with the ability to work independently and with a cross-functional team on numerous complex matters simultaneously and prioritize tasks in line with business goals.

  • Experience partnering (and developing rapport) with business teams in an evolving environment that requires sound judgment, excellent counseling skills, and ability to prioritize matters.

  • Experience working with equity management and corporate governance is a plus.

  • In-house experience with a global fintech or financial services company a plus

Compensation Information:
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $150,000 and $175,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity grants, and discretionary cash bonus awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
