About the Job

Tapcheck's Legal team is small, sophisticated, and growing - right now, it's the General Counsel and you. As Corporate Counsel, you'll get a rare opportunity: real ownership across the full range of legal work at a fast-growing fintech, starting day one.

We're opening this role because Tapcheck is scaling, and the legal needs are scaling with it - more contracts, new product lines, and a widening set of regulatory considerations that touch nearly every corner of the business. You'll partner directly with Sales, Product, Finance, Support, and Operations, and you'll report to the General Counsel, who will invest in your growth as you build your practice and your judgment.

This is a generalist in-house role by design. You'll handle commercial contracting, compliance, vendor and partner agreements, product counseling, employment matters, and the variety that comes with a fast-moving business. If you want breadth, autonomy, and a seat close to the business, this is it.

What You'll Do

Commercial Contracting

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including MSAs, SOWs, vendor agreements, partner agreements, and NDAs

  • Build and maintain contract templates and playbooks that let the business move faster with less risk

  • Partner directly with Sales, Partnerships, and Procurement to close deals efficiently without compromising Tapcheck's positions

Compliance & Regulatory Support

  • Advise on regulatory questions that arise as Tapcheck expands its product lines and enters new markets

  • Help mature Tapcheck's multi-state regulatory compliance program as the business scales

  • Facilitate and help manage relationships with examiners and regulators across the states where Tapcheck operates

  • Support the development and upkeep of compliance policies, processes, and training as the business grows

  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and flag issues that could affect Tapcheck's products or operations

General Corporate & Legal Support

  • Provide practical, business-minded legal counsel across a broad range of matters as they arise — this role is built for variety, not a narrow lane

  • Assist with employment law matters as they come up, partnering with People/HR and outside counsel as needed

  • Support corporate governance matters

  • Manage outside counsel at top-tier national law firms that currently support Tapcheck's growth

  • Help build the internal processes, templates, and know-how that let a two-person Legal team support a fast-growing company

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted, responsive legal partner to teams across the business, including Product, Engineering, Sales, Support, and Finance

  • Translate legal risk into clear, practical guidance that helps teams move forward with confidence

  • Work closely with the General Counsel on the matters that need it, while owning your own docket day-to-day

What You've Done

Required

  • Practiced law for 5–7 years, in a law firm, in-house, or a combination of both

  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

  • Advised high-growth technology or SaaS companies on commercial and corporate legal matters

  • Drafted, reviewed, and negotiated a broad range of commercial contracts, including MSAs, SOWs, vendor, and partner agreements

  • Operated independently, managing a varied legal docket with sound judgment and minimal day-to-day oversight

  • Partnered directly with business stakeholders across functions, translating legal risk into practical, actionable guidance

Preferred

  • Advised a fintech or payments company on regulatory, compliance, or product matters

  • Worked within a B2B2C business model

  • Served as Product Counsel or in a similar role, advising directly on product design and go-to-market

At this time, Tapcheck does not provide sponsorship for employment-based visas (e.g., H-1B, L-1, TN, etc.). Therefore, candidates must already possess the right to work in the United States without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
