About Wunder

Wunder is building a Modern Energy Company.

We were founded with one simple vision: to address the greatest crisis of our generation by accelerating the deployment of solar energy. In doing so, we help businesses, municipalities, and schools save money by delivering clean on-site power. We convert simple warehouses into electrified industrial platforms built for the future. We enable the nation’s leading commercial and industrial real estate firms to capture the benefits of solar across their properties. We align ESG goals with revenue targets, and the renewable energy assets we’re deploying today will power America’s tomorrow.

Wunder is actively developing hundreds of commercial solar projects across the country. Our team has evaluated more than 30,000 properties for solar across all 50 states to meet our customers where they are. Our customers have a national footprint and so do we. Wunder’s proprietary technology platform enables us to develop solar at scale, across a portfolio that includes everything from self-storage facilities and schools to data centers and industrial logistics facilities. Our average solar system—about 430 kilowatts in size—can offset 350,000 pounds of coal burned each year of system operation!

The Role

We have an amazing opportunity for an energetic, analytical, and detail-oriented accountant to join our team and push renewable energy forward. We’re looking for a driven, detail-oriented, and analytically strong accounting leader to help scale Wunder’s finance function as we accelerate the growth of distributed renewable energy.

As Director of Accounting, you’ll oversee core accounting operations and build the systems, processes, and controls required for a rapidly scaling renewable platform. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and scalability of our financial infrastructure.

This role spans both corporate accounting and asset-level accounting across a complex portfolio of commercial scale solar investments structured through multiple SPVs. You’ll own and improve key workflows including the monthly close, financial reporting, accounts payable, and audit support while also helping design the next generation of our finance processes.

This is not a traditional accounting role. You’ll be working at the intersection of finance, data, and infrastructure, managing and reporting on hundreds of millions of dollars of renewable energy assets. If you’re excited about building a new asset class, operating in a high-growth environment, and contributing to a mission-driven company focused on climate impact, we’d love to meet you.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Oversee accounts payable and core accounting operations
  • Lead annual audits and coordinate with external auditors
  • Manage accounting across multiple project-level entities (SPVs)
  • Analyze and reconcile large, complex datasets across systems
  • Design and implement scalable financial processes, controls, and systems
  • Partner cross-functionally with investment, asset management, and operations teams
About You
  • A Strong Foundation – You’re a CPA and have 5-7+ years of relevant accounting experience. Ideally, your background contains a mixture of both audit experience and financial services.
  • Technical Sophistication - You’re energized by working with and manipulating large amounts of data, and you’re proficient in Excel.
  • You’re Inquisitive & Autonomous - You have an inquisitive auditor mind willing to “figure things out” and you enjoy working autonomously.
  • You’re Super Organized - You’re a high achiever who loves bringing order to chaos. There’s a lot going on any given day and success in this role will require a high degree of organization, ability to stay on top of changing goals and priorities, and strong project management skills.
  • You’re Detail-Oriented - The quality of our data is paramount. You understand the necessity of accuracy, have a strong appreciation for reporting, and demand perfection from yourself.
  • You’re a Flexible, Quick Responder - The problem we’re trying to solve as an organization is dynamic and each day brings fresh and exciting challenges. You’re comfortable with ambiguity and can pivot quickly when needed.
  • You have a Team Ethos - You thrive in a creative, inventive, fast-paced startup environment, with people who are passionate about their work and mission. You’re willing to do whatever it takes to help your teammate next to you succeed.
  • You Believe That No Problem is Too Hard - In an industry where people are constantly stuck, we find ways to get it done. You find new and effective ways to streamline processes and increase efficiency.
