About the Role
Chime is seeking a strategic and agile Controller to lead our Accounting organization. This leader will oversee a high-performing team responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory standards, and the implementation of SOX controls. Beyond core accounting operations, the Controller will play a key role in driving financial performance, delivering actionable insights, and supporting Chime’s continued growth and scalability. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong in public company accounting and reporting, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Reporting to the CAO, this leader will build trusted cross-functional relationships and contribute to strategic, company-level decisions.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $193,860.00 and up to $274,700.00. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to
- Lead and develop a high-performance, high-integrity accounting team.
- Oversee timely preparation and review of financial statements in compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting standards.
- Interpret, develop, implement, and monitor accounting policies, processes, and procedures. Educate the accounting team and drive adoption of new GAAP standards.
- Provide counsel on accounting-related issues, including disclosure obligations related to business transactions and financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external requirements; produce accurate, timely, and useful management reports.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls; partner with Information Technology to ensure financial reporting systems support control objectives and operate effectively.
- Identify, research, and document complex technical accounting matters (e.g., derivatives, financial guarantees, equity, capitalized software) and provide operational support.
- Monitor emerging accounting literature and FASB pronouncements; prepare briefings for senior management and educational materials for the accounting team.
- Oversee cash management and serve as primary liaison for commercial banking relationships.
- Contribute to process improvements and internal controls related to financial reporting and technical accounting
To thrive in this role, you have
- 12+ years of accounting experience, including 5+ years as a Controller—ideally at a public company; IPO and FinTech experience is a strong plus.
- CPA with a Big 4 audit background.
- Deep expertise in US GAAP, SEC reporting, technical accounting, and SOX compliance.
- Proven leadership of a high-performing accounting organization with a track record of driving financial performance.
- Strong accounting research and problem-solving skills with a solid grasp of core accounting principles.
- Experience evolving processes, controls, and systems to support growth-stage companies.
- Skilled in managing relationships with external auditors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex financial topics to non-technical audiences.
- Detail-oriented, fact-based communicator with strong personal integrity and high ethical standards.
