Who Should Join?We’re looking for strategic finance leaders who are:
✔ Experienced in building and managing accounting functions in high-growth startups
✔ Skilled at developing and maintaining scalable accounting systems and controls
✔ Comfortable leading audits, compliance, and financial reporting processes
✔ Excited to partner with leadership to guide financial decisions and enable growth
Typical Roles & ResponsibilitiesOversee all aspects of accounting operations, including GL, AR/AP, payroll, and revenue recognition
Manage month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness
Lead external audits and coordinate with external tax and audit partners
Implement and optimize financial systems, processes, and internal controls
Partner with FP&A, Legal, and Operations to align financial data with company goals
Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements and board reporting packages
Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning in collaboration with finance leadership
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
Build, mentor, and manage small accounting teams as the company scales
While each startup has unique needs, strong Controllers in our network typically have:
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role
Prior experience in a venture-backed startup or high-growth environment
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and compliance frameworks
Experience managing audits and working with external accounting firms
Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Ramp, Bill.com)
CPA certification strongly preferred
Background in SaaS, fintech, or technology sectors is a plus
