Partner – Consumer Class Action Litigation

Remote | $180,000–$200,000 Base + Significant Bonus Potential

MB Attorney Search has been exclusively retained by a Chicago-based growing plaintiffs’ litigation firm to recruit an experienced Partner to join its Consumer Class Action practice, with a primary focus on data breach litigation.

We know this firm well. MB Attorney Search has successfully placed several attorneys and legal professionals with the firm, and we have seen firsthand its continued growth and evolution. The firm has moved beyond its startup stage and is now a profitable, expanding practice with a substantial and growing class action docket.

This is an unusual partner-level opportunity for an accomplished litigator who wants sophisticated work, meaningful responsibility, strong compensation potential and the flexibility to work fully remotely from anywhere in the country, without some of the traditional expectations of law firm partnership. There is no book-of-business requirement and no billable-hour requirement.

The Opportunity

The incoming Partner will assume responsibility for a significant portfolio of plaintiff-side consumer class action matters, primarily involving data breaches, and work closely with associates and law clerks throughout the litigation process.

The practice is fast-paced and high volume, with a substantial pipeline of existing and new matters.

Associates and law clerks generally prepare initial complaints, with local counsel assisting with filings as necessary. Matters frequently involve motion-to-dismiss briefing and often resolve after surviving dismissal; extensive discovery is less common.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a substantial portfolio of consumer class action and data breach matters from filing through resolution

  • Developing and overseeing litigation strategy

  • Reviewing complaints and other substantive work prepared by associates and law clerks

  • Handling and/or supervising motion-to-dismiss briefing and strategy

  • Managing class action settlements

  • Coordinating with local and co-counsel in jurisdictions across the country

  • Navigating competing actions, consolidation issues and lead-counsel disputes when applicable

  • Supervising and collaborating with associates across the practice

  • Providing mentorship and development to junior attorneys

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is an experienced litigator with the judgment, organization and leadership ability to independently manage a sophisticated, high-volume docket.

Strong candidates will have:

  • Significant litigation experience, ideally including meaningful class action experience

  • The ability to independently manage matters from inception through resolution

  • Experience supervising, managing and collaborating with other attorneys

  • Strong motion practice and settlement experience

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage numerous matters simultaneously

  • Sound judgment and the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment

  • A hands-on approach and willingness to contribute wherever needed

  • Experience working effectively with co-counsel and/or in multi-firm litigation

Approximately 10+ years of litigation experience is preferred. However, the firm places greater emphasis on ability than class year and will focus on whether a candidate has the judgment, maturity and track record to perform successfully at the partner level.

Plaintiff-side data breach experience is valuable but not required. An accomplished class action litigator who can quickly learn the substantive area may be an excellent fit.

The firm would particularly value a Partner who enjoys mentoring and developing younger attorneys as its associate team continues to grow.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role offers a combination that can be difficult to find in private practice:

  • Partner-level position with no book of business required

  • No billable-hour requirement

  • $180,000–$200,000 base salary with significant historical bonus upside

  • Substantial autonomy and ownership over sophisticated litigation

  • A growing and profitable firm with significant case volume

  • Opportunity to lead and mentor a growing team of associates

  • Fully remote flexibility

  • Up to four weeks of personal time off annually

  • Employer-paid medical, dental and vision coverage for the employee

  • Retirement plan

  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave after one year of employment

  • Additional benefits, including firm-paid CLEs, bar dues and other professional expenses

  • A generous holiday schedule, including the employee’s birthday

  • A culture that encourages attorneys to take meaningful time away and fully disconnect while out of the office

Compensation & Work Arrangement

  • Base Salary: $180,000–$200,000
  • Bonus:Annual discretionary bonuses are based on individual performance and overall firm profitability. In recent years, attorneys in comparable roles have received bonuses reaching approximately $180,000, although bonuses are not guaranteed and may vary from year to year.
  • Partnership: Non-equity
  • Book of Business: Not required
  • Billable Hours: No billable-hour requirement
  • Location: Fully remote; Chicago office presence is not required
  • Travel: Occasional travel may be required for hearings, mediations or other case-related needs
  • Bar admission in a particular jurisdiction is not required. Pennsylvania or New Jersey admission would be beneficial, but the firm is focused primarily on identifying the right attorney for the role.
