At E Source, we help utilities make sense of complexity in a rapidly changing landscape, and we’re looking for a Consultant to help shape how that impact shows up in the world.

E Source is a research, data/analytics, and technology-focused professional services firm focused exclusively on the utility industry in the US and Canada. We help utilities target and serve their customers more effectively, enhance and optimize their grid, and leverage operating best practices and technologies to manage their business more effectively. Headquartered in Texas, we have 450+ employees across the US and Canada. Learn more at www.esource.com

As a Consultant, you’ll support applied research and evaluation projects that help utility clients better serve their customers. You’ll collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data and develop insights that inform program design, performance improvement, and customer experience.

You’ll work as part of collaborative project teams, serving as a lead or co-consultant on project tasks and applied research and evaluation engagements. You’ll contribute to meaningful client work while continuing to build your technical, analytical, project management, and consulting skills, with support from project managers, senior consultants, and subject matter experts.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and refine interview guides, survey instruments, focus group materials, and other data collection tools that gather clear, relevant, and actionable information

  • Conduct interviews with program staff, market actors, utility customers, and other stakeholders, and support additional primary research activities as needed

  • Contribute to analysis plans that define how qualitative and quantitative data will be cleaned, organized, reviewed, analyzed, and interpreted

  • Execute analysis plans using established research and evaluation methods and appropriate analytical tools

  • Document analytical decisions, methods, assumptions, and steps clearly so work is transparent, replicable, and ready for review

  • Conduct an initial quality review of your own work to catch errors, inconsistencies, or gaps before sharing outputs with the project team

  • Develop data visualizations, graphics, tables, and analytical outputs that communicate findings clearly

  • Interpret research and evaluation findings and contribute to reports, presentations, memos, and other client-facing deliverables

  • Manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines, communicating status proactively, and raising risks or issues with potential solutions

  • Work as part of a collaborative project team, coordinating with project managers, senior consultants, subject matter experts, engineers, and data scientists to support successful delivery

You’re likely a great fit if you:

  • Have used applied research or program evaluation methods through coursework, internships, or professional experience

  • Bring intermediate qualitative and quantitative analysis skills, including the ability to organize, interpret, and summarize data

  • Think critically and solve problems well, connecting data, findings, and client questions

  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, including explaining methods, findings, and implications

  • Are proficient with Excel and familiar with analytical software such as Stata, SPSS, R, Python, or similar tools

  • Take initiative and ownership, following through on assigned work, anticipating next steps, and contributing proactively to project teams

  • Stay organized and manage your time well, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines

And even better if you:

  • Have conducted interviews, focus groups, or other qualitative research activities

  • Have designed surveys, analyzed survey results, and summarized key findings

  • Are familiar with mixed-method evaluation approaches

  • Have experience cleaning, managing, and preparing data for analysis

  • Have basic knowledge of the utility or energy industry, including exposure to programs such as energy efficiency, demand-side management, electrification, customer experience, or distributed energy resources

Experience and Skills to Qualify Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with one to three years of relevant experience in applied research, program evaluation, social science, or a related field

    • Alternatively, a master’s degree or PhD with one to two years of professional or applied experience

At E Source, you’ll work alongside people who are thoughtful, curious, and deeply knowledgeable about utility and energy systems. We value clarity over jargon, substance over flash, and collaboration over ego. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills, contribute to meaningful work, and help shape a company that plays a real role in how the energy future unfolds.

What you can expect

  • Excellent insurance options, including medical, dental, and vision plans; company-paid life insurance; company-paid long- and short-term disability insurance; medical and dependent-care flexible spending plans, and paid parental leave.

  • A flexible time off (FTO) policy that provides paid time away from work, approved by your manager, while ensuring business needs, workload commitments, and appropriate coverage are maintained.

  • A 401(k) plan with a 3% employer match.

The budgeted salary for this position is $68,000–$83,000 USD + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

This job will be remote, with minimal travel (1-4 times a year)

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US or Canada. We’re unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas or Labour Market Impact Assessments (Cdn) at this time.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
