About the Role

The Senior Communications Associate position will serve a key role in supporting the Communications team across Dow Jones and its businesses as part of its external communications team. Focus of this role will be securing external coverage for company executives, key announcements and newsroom reporting in order to grow awareness of how Dow Jones's advanced data capabilities, award-winning journalism and innovative technology deliver news, tools and financial insight to move markets and inform critical decisions.

You will:

  • Work cross-functionally with members of the Communications team to provide 360-degree support across Dow Jones brands, including but not limited to The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Investor's Business Daily and MarketWatch
  • Proactively pitch stories and media coverage of DJ leadership and newsroom staff to media outlets across broadcast, print and digital
  • Grow individual reporter profiles through regular appearances to better foster audience recognition of newsroom talent, their reporting and the brand
  • Collaborate with EMEA and APAC communications counterparts in newsroom pitching efforts to enhance the global reach of Dow Jones and its impactful reporting
  • Conduct media training for less experienced reporters and stakeholders
  • Lead the promotion of new hire announcements, product launches, milestones, etc., across internal and external channels
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contacts across media outlets
  • Book and manage DJ appearances across media outlets
  • Incorporate qualitative and quantitative metrics into quarterly reports to stakeholders
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from media outlets, advising DJ stakeholders on response approach
  • Garner external coverage for Dow Jones leadership and event offerings - including on-site Comms support - and produce coverage reports
  • Create and manage press distribution lists, as needed
  • Generate creative, compelling, well-written press materials including press releases, media alerts, pitch letters, bios, fact sheets
  • Provide occasional in-person tours of the WSJ newsroom to outside guests to share key information about the brand and its history

You have:

  • 2-4 years experience in Communications, Media Relations or Publicity
  • Excellent writing skills with a focus on storytelling and messaging
  • Established relationships with producers and reporters across broadcast, print and digital media
  • Record of high-value media placements
  • Strong news judgment and interest in media relations
  • Project management abilities
  • Knowledge of social media and how to leverage for communications
  • Working knowledge of the the evolving media landscape
  • Attention to detail and precision

Pay Range: 70,000.00 - 90,000.00
