We’re seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager to manage a team of underwriters and coordinate with internal departments including Sales, Actuarial, Underwriting Services, Client Services, and Financial to ensure that all accounts and prospects within the Insurance BU (new and renewal) are appropriately managed. This individual will lead a team of Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants to manage and grow an E&S binding authority book of business.
Your Impact:
Provide leadership, support and guidance to the Insurance Business Unit (IBU) employees as its underwriting manager. Develop and manage assigned underwriters and employees in accordance with agreed upon objectives
Analyze prospective risks and propose recommended insurer, benefits, policy forms, terms & conditions, rates and splits that will reasonably achieve targeted profit and are marketable
Analyze inforce risks and propose renewal terms that will reasonably achieve targeted profit and are marketable
Answer questions, provide direction and make decisions on issues that arise on a day-to-day basis related to assigned accounts, applying analytical and problem-solving skills, common sense, creativity and the ability to persuade
Present your position or point of view to insurers, prospects, clients, brokers, co-workers, actuarial or others in a fashion that is cogent and convincing, both orally and in writing
Develop and maintain relationships with key managers with insurers, service providers, MGA’s TPA’s, and providers doing business with Meridian
Lead development of underwriting, pricing, products, policy forms and insurer/producer relationships for new lines of business under the direction of the BU leader and in co-ordination with actuarial
Successful Candidates Will Have:
5-7 years of commercial lines underwriting experience, with 3-4 years of experience in MGA binding authority or programs preferred
Firm understanding of underwriting and risk mitigation principles
Insurance product development expertise and track record leading Underwriters and or similar team
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Outlook and Excel required
Ability to construct a persuasive argument, orally and in writing

At One80 Intermediaries, base pay is one part of our total compensation package, which also includes a comprehensive suite of benefits, including, for eligible employees, medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings. The total compensation for a position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. The expected base pay range for this position is between $84,200 - $105,000 + bonus. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including geographical location, education, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
