AMP is seeking to hire a business-minded Commercial Counsel who will serve as the company’s third in-house attorney responsible for supporting the broad legal needs of a growing organization. The successful candidate will report directly to AMP’s General Counsel and must be a resourceful self-starter with excellent judgment, a keen eye for detail, and a strong sense of team and mission.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities 

As Commercial Counsel, your job duties and responsibilities will include some or all of the following, which you must be able to perform unassisted or with reasonable accommodation.

Broad Commercial Portfolio

  • Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to enable and advance deal execution and commercial strategy.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and provide guidance with respect to a wide variety of commercial contracts -- domestic and international, with counterparties spanning the public and private sectors -- including those governing:
    • The sale and/or licensing of tech-forward waste and recycling solutions, including long-term service agreements;
    • The purchase and/or sale of feedstock, commodities, and environmental attributes; and
    • Licensing, partnerships, and procurement.
  • Play active role in the development and facilitation of RFI and RFP responses, including the provision of counsel with respect to public procurement law and associated processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in AMP’s contracting processes, including development of contract templates, playbooks, tool kits, and other contracting guidelines, training materials, and FAQs.

Compliance / Legal Department Operations

  • Support design, implementation, and continuous improvement of legal and compliance policies and processes while monitoring compliance with the same.
  • Assist with judicious use and management of AMP’s external counsel as well as the company’s contract lifecycle platform.
  • Provide pragmatic, day-to-day counsel to management and other business units to help identify and navigate commercial, corporate, and compliance issues, execute on core company priorities, and drive efficiencies internally and externally.

Other

  • Assist with mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other special projects as needed.
  • Traditional in-house generalist portfolio as needed.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance, in office or remote (subject to manager approval), which is an essential function of the job.

Education and License:

  • Required: Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and applicable bar admission(s) (in good standing). 

Qualifications: 

  • Required:
    • 6+ years of relevant legal experience gained through work at a well-recognized law firm or in a corporate legal department (preferably both).
    • Drive for results; sense of ownership and accountability; desire to make a difference.
    • Adept at issue spotting, pragmatic problem solving, and contextualized risk management.
    • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively engage a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders with respect, courtesy, and tact; ability to explain complex matters in plain language.
    • High degree of professionalism and integrity; meticulous attention to detail; strong planning/prioritization, organizational, and project management skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and recognize when to seek guidance; comfort collaborating; and receptivity to differing perspectives.
    • Eager to manage a variety of tasks across a broad range of substantive areas; able to learn new areas and master new systems quickly.
    • Capacity for managing shifting priorities in a fast-paced / deadline-driven environment.
  • Preferred:
    • 9+ years of relevant legal experience gained through work at a top-tier law firm or in a corporate legal department (preferably both).
    • Previous experience in the waste and recycling industry.
    • Previous experience scaling or supporting the scaling of a legal function and/or tech startup.

  • Position is full-time (40 hours per week) although workload may require more than regular work hours to perform essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours.

Salary & Compensation Information:

  • Salary: $175,000 - $200,000

Equity Grant:  

  • The candidate selected for this role will be recommended for a stock option grant commensurate with the position and the candidate’s qualifications.
