About The Position |
As the staff writer for Shape’s News & Deals business, you will pitch and write shopping stories at the intersection of health, fitness, and beauty for Shape.com, with the opportunity to contribute to InStyle.com as well.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is passionate about shopping and product recommendations, especially in the health and wellness space, and can create quality content in the Shape voice on a timely basis.
This is a full-time position with a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Writers must be based in the U.S. and be comfortable working remotely or near a Dotdash Meredith office (NYC, Des Moines, LA, Chicago).
About the Role:
Pitch and write at least 2 commerce articles per day
Identify and carry out commerce content opportunities within the wellness, fitness, and beauty categories
Use data and analytics to brainstorm and guide content decisions
Collaborate closely with numerous writers and editors on the Beauty & Style commerce team
Occasionally work within the CMS
Attend weekly editorial meetings as needed/determined by manager
Monitor social media (TikTok, Instagram, etc.) for commerce opportunities including trending topics and viral products
Assist with various administrative tasks, including assisting editors with workflow organization

Shape is seeking a staff writer to join our commerce team! We are looking for a detail-oriented writer with a passion for all things fitness, wellness, and beauty. Day-to-day, they will pitch and write content covering new-to-market products, brand sales, industry trends, and first-person reviews. They’ll also help readers find what to buy at major sale events, including Presidents Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Amazon Prime Day. Most importantly, they’ll use affiliate links in these stories so that customers can purchase those products.

70% Writing, pitching, and researching
20% Contribute to InStyle.com via net-new content and updates to existing articles.
10% Contribute to big sale and holiday tentpole shopping events i.e. Black Friday via roundups and one-off sale articles.
The Role’s Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Journalism or Communications; or equivalent experience.
Experience:
2+ years writing or editing experience at an online publisher, ideally in the beauty & style space.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, Certifications and Abilities:
The ability to use data to identify topics of interest to a wide audience
Proactive, flexible team player that’s able to meet deadlines and work in a fast-moving environment
Strong knowledge of the fitness and wellness landscape including product launches, trends, and use of products in practice
Outstanding organizational skills and innate ability to pay attention to detail
The ability to work quickly, efficiently, and independently and collaborate with both remote editorial workers and in-house editorial team members
Strong writing, research, and self-editing skills
Mastery of written English and ability to edit stories based on style guides and with platform optimization top of mind
Experience working with content management systems

Pay Range
Salary: New York: $64,350.00 - $73,000.00 Remote: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of People Inc's total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives.
