About the Role

The Cloud Systems Specialist (AWS) is responsible for the administration, security, optimization, and auditing of our organization's cloud infrastructure and associated systems. This role blends cloud administration, security operations, and financial oversight, with a primary focus on AWS and GitHub environments. You will serve as the gateway to our cloud environment, ensuring robust access controls, maintaining compliance through regular audits, and optimizing our cloud costs through FinOps principles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Manage, configure, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability across all environments.

  • GitHub Administration: Administer and integrate GitHub repositories, including access management, workflow automation, and repository security controls.

  • Security Implementation: Implement, monitor, and enforce MFA/2FA and other security best practices across all cloud and code systems.

  • Compliance & Auditing: Conduct regular security and compliance audits of cloud workloads, access controls, and code repositories to ensure adherence to security standards.

  • Cloud Financial Operations (FinOps): Monitor and optimize cloud spending, applying FinOps principles to ensure cost-effective use of resources and budget management.

  • Automation & Monitoring: Automate routine tasks and system monitoring using infrastructure-as-code tools and CI/CD pipelines to improve operational efficiency.

  • Incident Response: Respond to and remediate security incidents or vulnerabilities in the cloud environment with rapid resolution and preventive measures.

  • Cross-team Collaboration: Work closely with DevOps, security, and IT teams to ensure seamless operations and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

  • Documentation & Knowledge Management: Document processes, configurations, and audit findings for transparency, knowledge sharing, and compliance purposes.

Requirements
  • AWS Expertise: 2-3 years of hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudTrail, and AWS Config.

  • Security Focus: Strong background in cloud security, access management, and implementing MFA/2FA solutions.

  • AWS Certifications: Any AWS Cloud certification such as: AWS Certified SysOps Administrator preferred, AWS Certified Security - Specialty, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.

  • GitHub Administration: Experience managing GitHub repositories, access controls, and workflow automation.

  • Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency with CloudFormation, Terraform, or similar IaC tools.

  • Automation Skills: Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation scripting (Python, Bash), and monitoring tools.

  • FinOps Knowledge: Understanding of cloud cost optimization, budgeting, and financial operations principles.

  • Security & Compliance: Knowledge of security frameworks, audit procedures, and compliance requirements.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-team collaboration.

Bonus Points
  • Experience with IoT/Edge device management and security

  • Background in startups or high-growth technology companies

  • Knowledge of additional cloud providers (Azure or GCP)

  • Any experience with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Understanding of AI/ML infrastructure requirements
