The Opportunity
The Client Legal Services Paralegal will provide litigation support to our Client Legal Service’s attorneys in Texas to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation. Our ideal candidate will be part of a unique team responsible for providing top quality work including file triaging of referrals, scheduling, reviewing and analyzing files, along with assisting with research, discovery, and the drafting of documents for litigation. The role will provide assistance in the legal representation of Root Insurance and its insureds for litigated matters involving auto, property, subrogation and general liability files. These cases will be handled from inception through trial resolution.
Salary Range: $72,000 - $90,000
While Root is a “work where it works best” company, this role must be based in either Dallas or Houston, Texas.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Manage case files, including document control, docket deadline calendaring, filing and E-Filing
- Managing and scheduling depositions, including coordinating with counsel and witnesses, coordinating with counsel and witnesses, preparing notices, and arranging court reporters.
- Preparing, tracking and managing subpoenas, and discovery requests to third/non parties regarding production of documents.
- Assist in on-boarding of new suits.
- Gather, review, organize and summarize medical records.
- Handle mailings and E-Filing documents, including pleadings, motions/briefs, and hearing notices with the TX E-Filing Portals for the local jurisdictions
- Proficiency in trial preparation, document citation checking, and filing in federal and state courts.
- Work with vendors to request and obtain records via subpoena/medical authorization; follow up and organize/summarize upon receipt.
- Skilled in drafting legal documents such as motions, answers, discovery responses, and pre-trial pleadings.
- Review and receipt of e-service mail and US mail
- Ability to calendar litigation deadlines effectively.
- Familiarity with Litigation management software
What You Will Need to Succeed
- Paralegal certificate or degree in paralegal studies from an accredited paralegal training program.
- Strong knowledge of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure
- Experience with E-Filing
- 3+ years of relevant experience either in the role of an insurance defense practice paralegal, plaintiff personal injury, or as a paralegal working for a property/casualty insurance company.
- Demonstrated legal research ability using WestLaw, Lexis-Nexus or other sources.
- Comfortable with new forms of technology, including AI, in the workplace and the ability to adapt quickly to new areas of the law.
- Comprehension of property and casualty principles preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated legal writing ability and talent for translating complex legal concepts into clear and concise terms with actionable deliverables.
- Ability to build collaborative working relationships.
- Comfortable in an environment with ambiguity and is quickly able to adapt when changes occur.
- Speaks and partners effectively in a matrixed environment.
- Dedicated sense of professionalism and ethical conduct.
- Great attention to detail.
- Self-starter and ability to work independently and effectively prioritize work.
- Ability to approach problems with an open mind
