The Claims Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of workers' compensation and auto liability claims. A strategic thinker and self directed leader who can manage third party claims administrators, outside counsel and internal employees to ensure efficient handling and minimize claims costs.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise an external team of claims adjusters
- Oversee the investigation and resolution of workers' compensation and auto liability claims
- Ensure appropriate reserves are set and make decisions about when to aggressively defend and when to reach a settlement
- Collaborate with safety, human resources, fleet, and other functions to coordinate a unified approach to claims handling and risk management
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of claims
- Ability to demonstrate reduction in total cost of risk to finance partners
- Use data analytics to identify loss drivers and implement risk management tools.
- Lead quarterly claim reviews with third party administrators
- Support return to work strategies
- Attend mediation for significant claims
- Point of contact for business partners on claim related questions
- Develop and implement claims handling procedures and training materials
- Monitor claims trends and identify areas for improvement
- Negotiate settlements with claimants and attorneys
- Prepare and present reports on claims activity and costs
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
- Conduct regular training sessions
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in claims management, with a focus on workers' compensation and auto liability
- Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations related to claims handling
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Proven leadership and team management abilities
- Ability to analyze data and identify trends
- Detail oriented and organized.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certification in claims management (e.g., AIC, CPCU).
- Experience working in a large corporate environment
- Experience working with an Enterprise Risk Management System
