The Chief Technology Officer will lead the technology strategy, manage engineering execution, ensure scalability and security, and build a high-performing engineering organization for Ondo Finance's growth.
About the company
Hi, we're Ondo Finance. Our mission is to provide institutional-grade, blockchain-enabled investment products and services. We have both a technology arm that develops decentralized finance technology, and an asset management arm that creates and manages tokenized funds. We are the global leader in tokenized treasuries, tokenized stocks and ETFs, and are building the future of institutional-grade financial services onchain.
Founded by folks from Goldman Sachs Digital Assets Team, we’re backed by some of the best investors in the world including Founders Fund, Coinbase Ventures, Pantera Capital, Tiger Global, and more. We are currently the leaders in the space in terms of AUM and are well capitalized to continue growing the firm. We're fully remote, with team members across the U.S.
About the role
We are hiring a hands-on Chief Technology Officer to lead Ondo’s through its next phase of growth. This role combines deep architectural ownership with operational excellence and organizational leadership. You will set technical direction across a complex multi-product surface area spanning onchain and offchain systems, while ensuring reliable, secure execution against our roadmap. As a peer to senior company leadership, you will partner closely with executive stakeholders to raise standards, eliminate technical debt, and build a world-class engineering organization capable of supporting institutional-grade products.
Target outcomes
- Production systems operate with institutional-grade reliability, with major customer-impacting incidents becoming rare and root causes systematically eliminated.
- Engineering execution becomes predictable and parallelized across multiple product surfaces, enabling rapid, high-quality delivery at scale.
- A clear, durable long-term architecture is defined and implemented, reducing accumulated technical debt and enabling faster iteration.
- AI is embedded across engineering workflows, tooling, and development practices, materially improving productivity and code quality while guiding the evolution of Ondo’s systems to support AI and agent-driven use cases.
- Ondo becomes a magnet for high-caliber engineering talent, with strong leadership bench depth and high retention.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the long-term technical architecture across onchain and offchain systems, ensuring scalability, security, and institutional readiness.
- Lead and develop the engineering organization, including hiring senior talent, coaching engineering managers, and strengthening performance standards.
- Drive disciplined planning and delivery processes that create alignment with Product and executive leadership and result in predictable execution.
- Establish and enforce high standards for reliability, incident management, observability, and production readiness.
- Partner with Legal to embed strong controls and compliance-aware engineering practices across the SDLC.
- Evaluate and reduce technical debt, making principled tradeoffs between short-term velocity and long-term system durability.
- Act as a strategic counterweight in roadmap and deadline discussions, ensuring commitments are ambitious but grounded in sound engineering judgment.
- Improve internal tooling, developer experience, and data systems to increase engineering velocity and cross-functional leverage.
- Represent the technology organization to executive leadership, investors, and external stakeholders when needed.
Requirements
- 10+ years of engineering leadership experience, including leadership of managers and senior engineers in high-growth environments.
- Track record of defining architecture and scaling complex distributed systems in production.
- Experience operating systems with strong security, reliability, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated success building and evolving engineering organizations, including hiring senior leaders and raising performance standards.
- Strong cross-functional leadership skills and the ability to drive alignment across the business.
- Experience in fintech, crypto, or other regulated or institutionally oriented domains.
- Excellent communication skills and sound judgment in prioritization and tradeoff decisions.
Nice to haves
- Background at a large-scale technology company combined with meaningful experience in crypto or digital assets.
- Experience with smart contract development or teams building on Solana or EVM ecosystems.
- Familiarity with custody, trading systems, or tokenized real-world asset infrastructure.
- Prior responsibility for engineering budgeting or long-term capacity planning.
- Experience leveraging AI tools and automation to materially improve engineering productivity.
- Experience leading hybrid or distributed engineering teams and building in-person engineering hubs as organizations scale.
What we offer
- Competitive compensation including but not limited to salary, future token rights, and/or equity (according to your preferences) — We are well-funded and believe that great talent deserves great compensation.
- Full benefits (medical, vision, and dental) and flexible vacation policy (PTO).
- Remote-first team across many countries — You will be an early team member helping shape our vision, culture, and design practices.
- A+ colleagues — Our team includes alumni from: Goldman Sachs, Blackrock, Two Sigma, Bridgewater, SpaceX, AWS, Meta, Google, McKinsey, Circle, Uniswap.
