What You’ll Do 

Reporting to Strive Health’s President, the Chief Nephrologist will serve as a clinical evangelist for Strive Health’s clinical model and will drive patient impact for the enterprise. The Chief Nephrologist will share accountability for core growth metrics, nephrology partner retention, and be responsible for the performance of our partnered nephrology practices in clinical and financial performance expectations. The Chief Nephrologist will partner with the Chief Clinical Officer and other clinical leadership to guide development of clinical programs, train patient-facing Strivers, and ensure high quality clinical experience for our patients. The Chief Nephrologist will be a cultural leader for Strive’s clinical teams and broadly as a senior leader for the enterprise. This individual will report to Strive Health’s President. 

The Day to Day 

  • Evolve Strive’s workflows, metrics, clinical programs and total-cost-of-care strategies to be a best-in-class kidney care provider 
  • Be a leading voice in Strive’s renal training for Kidney Heroes  
  • Accountability for Strive’s clinical outcomes, particularly for Optimal Starts and ESRD patient management 
  • Advocate for equitable, high-quality care which ranges from preventative care to managing highly complex comorbid conditions, including a focus on both medical and social needs  
  • Support regional dyad on account management of strategic nephrology practices. This includes active participation in recurring clinical meetings with practices. This individual will develop and maintain a relationship with external providers and have a level of accountability for retention and performance of Strive’s partner practices  
  • Serve as clinical partner with internal groups such as Network and Customer Success to further strengthen Strive’s partnerships 
  • Manage external CKCC medical directors (1 per KCE) to drive activity, relationship, and KCE-wide performance 
  • Participate on KCE and other internal boards as needed 
  • Collaborate with the operations team on program strategy for CMS’ value-based kidney program, CKCCPartner with Network team on developing standard protocols for nephrologist engagement and reporting 
  • Support relationship and business development conversations with external providers 
  • Serve as a member of the Office of the OCMO, representing the Nephrology specialty for the enterprise  
  • Collaborate with other members of the Senior Executive Team, OCMO, and Product Team to guide development of a world-class sustainable clinical model and shape Strive’s foundation around full-risk, patient-centered care  
  • Accountable for ensuring the needs of external clinical partners (nephrologists in particular) are properly represented in care model development (i.e., serve as the voice of Strive’s external clinical partners).  
  • Accountable for achieving/exceeding targets which include enterprise growth metrics, nephrology partner retention and satisfaction, nephrology partner performance, and overall clinical outcomes  
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 60% to markets as needed  
  • Cultivate a mission-driven, collaborative clinical culture that champions the Strive Health mission and patients we serve  

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Board certified in Nephrology  
  • Current valid license to practice medicine including DEA license and BLS certified  
  • 10+ years in progressively responsible clinical leadership positions with oversight in value-based care and nephrology practice  
  • 10+ years as a practicing Nephrologist, preferably serving in leadership positions within an independent nephrology group practice  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated ability provide leadership to staff, and build the trust and respect of patients, staff, and colleagues  
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff to build confidence and competency in caring for patients with kidney disease.  
  • Prior experience in a private practice setting 
  • Sensitivity to the diverse needs of culturally diverse staff, patients, and communities   
  • Previous experience supervising providers and other clinical staff is essential, with demonstrated  
  • Record of success in achieving clinical metrics that matter  
  • Deep understanding of current guidelines and evidenced-based medicine in nephrology care. This includes comfort in related specialty areas and ability to quickly review the medical literature to become fluent in various clinical areas

  • Excellent presentation skills and comfort speaking publicly 
  • High emotional IQ and ability to engage both internally and externally about Strive Health’s mission 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills required, including creativity and resourcefulness. Ability to analyze technical issues and resolve administrative problems. Ability to exercise use of independent judgement 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with written fluency in English  
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with external clinician and enterprise partners  
  • Experience and passion providing care to culturally diverse and medically complex populations and underserved communities    

 

Annual Base Salary Range: $265,500 - $345,000
