Role Summary

Responsible for leading business intelligence, market analysis, and competitive intelligence functions to support strategic decision-making for the integrated steel plant's commercial and marketing operations. The role involves analyzing market trends, customer demand, pricing dynamics, and competitor positioning within the U.S. flat steel products market, and translating insights into actionable strategies for sales, marketing, and business planning teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and execution of business intelligence frameworks, market research, and competitive analysis for flat steel products in the United States.
  • Analyze market trends, demand-supply dynamics, pricing patterns, and customer segments to support commercial strategy and sales planning.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and analytical tools to track market share, competitor activity, and industry benchmarks.
  • Partner with sales and marketing leadership to identify growth opportunities, customer targeting strategies, and product positioning.
  • Conduct customer and market segmentation studies to support go-to-market strategies for flat steel products.
  • Track macroeconomic indicators, steel industry trends, trade policies, and tariff developments impacting the U.S. steel market.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support pricing strategy, contract negotiations, and customer relationship management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, marketing, production planning, and finance to align business intelligence outputs with organizational goals.
  • Build and maintain competitive intelligence databases covering key steel producers, capacity additions, and market entry strategies.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Support development of annual sales forecasts, market outlook reports, and business plans.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry associations, market data providers, and research agencies.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline; MBA preferred.
  • 15-20 years of experience in business intelligence, market research, or sales/marketing roles, preferably within leading steel companies supplying flat products in the United States.
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. flat steel products market, including automotive, construction, appliance, and industrial end-use segments.
  • Proven experience in market analysis, competitive benchmarking, and commercial strategy development.
  • Strong analytical and data visualization skills, with experience in BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and market research methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable business insights for senior leadership.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with sales, marketing, and commercial teams.
Working Conditions
  • Based in the United States, supporting the Mesabi ISP Project's commercial operations.
Preferred Experience
  • Background in marketing or sales roles within leading steel companies supplying flat products to the U.S. market.
  • Experience with steel industry data platforms (e.g., CRU, Fastmarkets, SBB) and trade/tariff analysis.
  • Familiarity with greenfield steel plant startups and market entry strategy development.
