Get to Know the Opportunity:
The Business Development Specialist role is responsible for the strategic development, coordination and execution/delivery of Voya Retirement sales proposals covering the Mid, Large and Government Market to existing and prospective clients for retirement opportunities through the Request For Proposal (RFP) or Request For Information (RFI) process. The role is strategically focused as they work hand in hand with the Sales Lead on multiple opportunities at various stages of the process (proposal review, product and service gap analysis, solutioning, pricing, follow-ups, finals meetings, site visits, contracting).
Please Note: Work location for this role is FLEXIBLE! This position allows 100% remote work from home or allows work to be performed in any of our major office locations with a hybrid schedule.
The Contributions You’ll Make:
- Drive and take ownership of Voya Retirement sales proposals covering the Mid, Large and Government Market to existing and prospective clients for retirement opportunities through RFPs, RFIs and other related requests.
- Identify opportunities to differentiate Voya using quantifiable data, consultant tendencies, competitor capabilities, and the nuance of the proposal request.
- Participate in Consultant calls with Sales Lead to obtain nuanced information. Incorporate and distill into project strategy.
- Arrange and sponsor meeting with internal Sales Lead, RFP Writer, and other sales influencers to develop a winning business strategy based on the evaluation and consultant information. Set clear direction for a timely delivery of the project.
- Develop an analysis of product and service requirements in each opportunity. Prepare gap analysis. Work with Sales Lead to prioritize. Navigate the across the Voya Retirement ecosystem including subject matter experts and senior managers to identify potential solutions. Present proposed solutions via an ongoing inter-departmental exceptions meeting to raise awareness and obtain stakeholder support and endorsement.
- Accountable for the financial aspects of each opportunity. Identify pricing levers. Collaborate with finance team and sales lead to competitively price the opportunity using various fee strategies in compliance with profitability margins. Secure pricing approval from Senior Management.
- Provide support or respond to all post proposal activities including follow-up/clarification questions and preparing pricing a best and final pricing offer.
- Influence and facilitate preparation of the pursuit team responsible for presenting Voya’s proposal in face-to-face prospect meetings. Prepare sales presentation deck based on consultant agenda.
- Debrief prospect meetings. Provide feedback. Identify opportunities to improve delivery.
- Execute handoff meeting with Implementation, Relationship Management and Contracts Administration for all new sales and associated tasks.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge & Experience:
- BA degree or equivalent experience.
- 2-3 years sales or sales support experience.
- 3-4 years of defined contribution experience.
- 1-2 years of combined sales support in a defined contribution environment.
- A thorough understanding of retirement industry and Voya product and service knowledge is a plus.
- Prior experience in an implementation, plan management or operational role is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills including written and oral.
- Project management skills.
- Ability to cultivate and enhance relationships with internal business partners.
- Series 6 licensing or commitment to get it within 180 days of employment.

Compensation Pay Disclosure:
Voya is committed to pay that’s fair and equitable, which means comparable pay for comparable roles and responsibilities.
The below annual base salary range reflects the expected hiring range(s) for this position in the location(s) listed. In addition to base salary, Voya offers incentive opportunities (i.e., annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on the role to reward the achievement of annual performance objectives. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Voya Financial is willing to pay at the time of this posting.
Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted salary range based upon the candidate’s geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
$103,810 - $129,760 USD
