About Northstar

Northstar Financial Consulting Group is a high-growth outsourced accounting, tax, and advisory firm built for complex, regulated industries. Founded in Southern California with deep roots in the cannabis sector, we’ve expanded into several other verticals including construction, healthcare, SaaS, ecommerce. We service operators who need more than a bookkeeper—they need an embedded finance partner. Our team of 70+ professionals, many with Big 4 backgrounds, delivers fractional CFO services, controllership, compliance, and strategic advisory to SMBs navigating real operational complexity. We work in niche industries, and we do it exceptionally well.

The Role

This is a true business development role—not account management, not marketing support. We’re looking for a closer who can build a pipeline from scratch, run the full sales cycle from first touch to signed engagement, and do it across every channel that moves the needle: cold outreach, warm networking, email campaigns, LinkedIn, direct mail, industry conferences, and referral partnerships.

You’ll own the revenue number. You’ll coordinate closely with marketing to align messaging and campaigns, but your mandate is to generate and close new business—and the more you close, the more you earn. Our escalating commission structure is designed to reward production aggressively, without ceiling. We want someone as comfortable building a sequenced email campaign in a CRM as they are working a room at an industry conference—who can sit across from a business owner and talk about tax liability, cash flow modeling, or audit readiness without breaking a sweat.

What You’ll Own

Pipeline Generation & Revenue

• Source, prospect, and close new business through every available channel: cold calling, email sequences, LinkedIn outreach, direct mail, referral cultivation, and in-person networking

• Own the full sales cycle from initial outreach through signed engagement, including discovery, proposal, negotiation, and close

• Build and maintain a target account list aligned to priority industries (cannabis, construction, healthcare, SaaS, ecommerce, and emerging verticals)

• Represent Northstar at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events and convert conversations into a qualified pipeline

• Develop referral partnerships with attorneys, consultants, bankers, and other professionals serving our target market

Technology & Campaign Execution

• Leverage CRM tools (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar) to manage pipeline, automate follow-ups, and track conversion metrics

• Design and execute multi-touch outbound campaigns combining email sequences, LinkedIn engagement, phone outreach, and direct mail

• Use LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Apollo, or comparable platforms to identify and engage decision-makers; continuously improve effectiveness through A/B testing and data-driven iteration

Marketing Coordination & Reporting

• Partner with the marketing team to align outbound efforts with campaigns, messaging, and brand positioning; provide field intelligence to sharpen targeting and content strategy

• Identify, coordinate, manage, and liaise with external marketing vendors to drive inbound lead generation and amplify the firm’s market presence

• Coordinate on event strategy, follow-up workflows, and sales enablement materials

• Maintain a clean, accurate pipeline with regular reporting on activity metrics, pipeline health, forecasting, and conversion rates

Who You Are

Required

• 5+ years in business development or sales with a demonstrable track record of generating and closing new business (not managing existing accounts)

• Experience selling professional services, financial services, or B2B advisory solutions

• Proven ability to build pipeline from scratch through outbound prospecting, networking, and relationship development

• Fluency with CRM platforms and modern sales technology (email automation, prospecting tools, campaign analytics)

• Comfortable and effective at conferences, trade shows, industry mixers, and client meetings

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; self-starter with urgency and accountability

Strongly Preferred

• Background in accounting, finance, or tax; someone who can discuss fractional CFO services, controllership, tax liability, audit preparation, and bookkeeping with genuine authority

• Experience in or familiarity with regulated industries (cannabis, construction, healthcare)

• Prior experience executing direct mail campaigns and multi-channel outbound programs

• Existing network of referral partners, industry contacts, or centers of influence in relevant verticals

Benefits

• Health, dental, and vision insurance; company-paid life and long-term disability

• Supplemental life and short-term disability options

• Safe Harbor 401(k) with employer contributions

• Professional development support (Becker, LinkedIn Learning, continuing education)

This isn't a desk job. It's a growth engine. If you're a builder, a connector, and a closer, we want to hear from you.
