Job Description
This is a remote position. Qualified candidates can live anywhere in the US, but significant travel is expected to be successful.
Energetics is seeking a highly skilled, well-connected, self-motivated Business Development Director to lead all revenue-generating opportunities in the energy efficiency, renewable energy, and transportation sectors. You will be accountable for end-to-end oversight of new client activities, including prospecting target clients, leading negotiations, developing customized proposals, closing business, and seeing all contracts through the setup phase. Simply put, someone who ensures our approach is strategically focused and aligned with our long-term business development goals.
Ideal candidates are industry-leading business development professionals with extensive knowledge of the energy efficiency industry, well-versed in the dynamics of the industry, aware of current legislative and regulatory updates, and have free thoughts on where the industry trends are heading.
In this role, you will:
- Own all revenue-generating opportunities for the Energetics business; end-to-end oversight of all prospecting, marketing, negotiating, proposing, and closing of new client activities
- Be a credible and trusted advisor speaking the language of federal program managers and contracting officers fluently, navigating federal contracts in $1M-$50M range; ability to source and secure at least $4M in new awards in the first year (goals are set annually)
- Own the reporting and presentation of all business development activities weekly to leadership and other stakeholders, including one-on-one meetings, Salesforce updates, and broader team meetings; be a trusted advisor to the Executive team in developing and driving strategic initiatives forward to completion
- Establish and develop the pursuit planning process; collaborate cross-functionally to create compelling differentiators, capture leads, and execute a winning strategy to secure key bids
- Routinely build, curate, and leverage a network of relationships with key program managers, contracting officers, teaming partners, and competitors. This role requires a demonstrated capability of building deep professional relationships with corporate, industry, government, municipal, and community contacts
- Establish and grow Partner relationships; developing teaming agreements, join ventures and partner strategies to win new business
- Provide expert analysis and research data related to clients, competitors, and future opportunities; monitor legislative and/or regulatory activities that could affect the need for services
- Be a thought leader in the space; represent the firm at conferences, industry days, executive meetings, and federal forums
Exciting candidates have:
- Bachelor's degree required; Graduate degree a plus
- Over 10 years of progressive business development experience in the energy space, including over 5 years of technical fluency with government energy efficiency, decarbonization, or transportation/security programs to converse credibly with key government staff on Day 1
- Federal capture management experience; skilled in capture planning, opportunity qualification, win strategies and teaming
- Proven client engagement and consultative selling; can uncover client needs, align offerings, and position value in non-transactional ways
- Affinity for technology and it’s required application to maintain relevance in a progressively competitive business environment; experience with pipeline tools (GovWin, Salesforce) and demonstrated ability and interest to leverage AI tools to deliver results
- An entrepreneurial mindset – thrives in an environment where processes are evolving and building business development systems as we grow
- Grit, persistence, and resilience; federal sales cycles are long and exhausting, so we need someone who can adapt quickly as well as forecast plans well into the future
- Superior communication skills; including an innate ability to create compelling storylines through a persuasive lens
- Affinity for technology and it’s required application to maintain relevance in a progressively competitive business environment; demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to deliver results
- Relentless focus on daily operational efficiency; detailed organizational skills, precise time management ability, unwavering focus in the face of increasing workload, strategic ability to navigate a hectic travel schedule
