The Border Reporter/MMJ is responsible for producing compelling stories about issues impacting San Diego's border, creating content for various platforms, and hosting a CTV streaming show.
ROLE: FOX 5 San Diego/KUSI News duopoly is seeking a dynamic, enterprising Border Reporter based in San Diego to produce compelling, daily stories focusing on issues impacting San Diego’s Southern border with Mexico. This role is responsible for delivering relevant, high-impact stories tailored to San Diego audiences. A successful candidate is digitally savvy, excels in storytelling that connects with audiences on broadcast, streaming, website and social. This position requires the multimedia journalist to shoot, write, edit vosots and packages. It also requires the ability to produce, host, and pilot original streaming shows for our CTV app.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Produce daily, original San Diego-focused content for multiplatform viewing
- Develop and deliver stories on border-related topics beyond headlines and politics, focusing on context, impact, and solutions for local community
- Produce and host weekly border related show for station’s CTV streaming app
- Contributes daily to digital platforms including submitting original articles for station website and producing vertical content for mobile users
- Must be creative with how to tailor and present stories on different screens to engage today’s audiences on every platform they’re watching
- Maintain an active presence on social media to promote stories, engage audiences, and generate story ideas
- Build and maintain strong sources on both sides of the border to support exclusive and enterprise reporting
- Shoot, write, and edit stories ensuring accuracy, clarity, and strong storytelling
- Collaborate with assignment desk, producer, photographer on live shots
- Must be able to ad-lib with a strong ability to interact with anchors and guests
- Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
- Attend station partnerships in community
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.A. or B.S. Degree preferably in journalism, communication or equivalent related experience
- Prefer 5+ years TV news reporting in a medium to large market
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred (fluent in speaking and reading; proficient in Spanish writing)

- Must interact positively and productively with colleagues and the public
- Upholds station values and models professionalism on and off the air
- Exceptional writing, grammar and spelling, technical formatting
- Excellent communication skills with ability to ad-lib when required
- Strong on-air presentation – must be credible, personable and engaging
- Excellent time management skills
- Excellent editing skills with Adobe Premiere and video camera/news photography skills
- Ability to carry 25-30 pounds of equipment
- Flexible with schedule and willing to work additional hours or days or different shifts and holidays as required by news content
- Strong attention to detail
- Must be able to accept constructive direction and feedback
- Comp starting at $35+ hr commensurate with experience and skill level
