Job Description

Summary:

As an Operations Engineer you will be responsible for providing technical expertise to a large fleet of Battery Energy Storage Systems. operation, troubleshooting, and analysis of Invenergy’s Energy Storage facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide first line engineering support for the day-to-day operations of the Invenergy utility-scale storage fleet

  • Diagnose issues with and troubleshoot technical systems on sites, including Battery Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Power Plant Controllers, Power Conversion Systems, Fire Suppression Systems, and HVAC systems.

  • Collaborate with cross functional groups to resolve issues on site (Control Center, SCADA, on-site technicians, EHS, other operations engineers)

  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve equipment reliability and performance issues to maximize site energy production. 

  • Interface with equipment manufacturers to resolve technical issues and develop best operating practices. 

  • Develop procedures and technical documentation regarding the safe and efficient operation of storage facilities.

  • Evaluate electrical engineering drawings and studies associated with Energy Storage Systems and their applications for operations

  • Participate in regular site operation calls and work with field personnel to investigate equipment issues and maximize performance

  • Onboard new storage projects into operating fleet

  • Some travel is required (<20%)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics

  • 4-6+ years of experience in engineering, systems integration, or technical support roles

    • 2-4 years of directly relevant experience with relevant Advanced Degree

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Problem solving and critical thinking

  • Ability to independently manage projects and drive initiatives

  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Powin BESS Systems (Stack 230, 360, and 750 products)

  • Energy Storage specific experience with:

    • Power Conversion Systems (SMA, Power Electronics, TMEIC, EPC Power)

    • HMI Platforms (Powin Kobold, Inductive Automation Ignition, Fluence)

  • Degree concentration in Power Systems or Renewable Energy Systems

  • Understanding of Electrical Safety Practices

  • Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, ASCE and ANSI/IEEE standards and codes.

  • Understanding of Electrical Safety Practices

  • Experience with HV/MV electrical infrastructure

Preferred work location Chicago, IL Headquarters.

Base Pay

$90,000.00 - $115,000.00 USD Annual
Bonus: 20% - 30%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
 
In addition to base pay, the total annual compensation package may also include eligibility to participate in our bonus program(s) which are designed to reward individual and company performance. Your recruiter can share more about bonus eligibility for this position during the hiring process.
