About our team

We believe every engineer at Vetcove should have a holistic view of Vetcove and work on many areas of our technology stack. We encourage you to apply to help us grow a system that works with most veterinary hospitals in the country every day. We move lightning-fast in an industry that was previously slow to adopt technology. As Vetcove quickly expands its offerings to better serve veterinary groups and its partners, we’re quickly growing our engineering team to keep pace with the rapid expansion of our business, while maintaining exceptional code quality and system integrity. You’ll have an opportunity to work closely with end users, handle large scale infrastructure challenges, and everything in between. We operate in a fully remote environment, giving you the flexibility to do your best work while staying deeply connected to a fast-moving, highly collaborative team.

About the Position

As an AI-focused BAML Engineer, you will drive the development of Vetcove’s BAML-powered, LLM-integrated workflows. You’ll craft effective prompts, build rigorous evaluation suites, and test emerging model releases to benchmark performance and deliver dependable AI capabilities across the platform. This role is ideal for someone who lives and breathes AI systems, and who is eager to push the boundaries of prompt engineering and model evaluation.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, define, and maintain BAML specifications that power new and existing product features.

  • Own the structure, quality, and maintainability of BAML workflows across engineering teams.

  • Build reusable BAML patterns and modules to standardize how Vetcove handles LLM interactions.

  • Ensure strong output validation, schema control, and error-handling using BAML’s declarative model.

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business logic into BAML workflows.

  • Guide best practices for prompt structure, schema design, testing, and versioning within BAML.

  • Document conventions, patterns, and architectural decisions for long-term maintainability.

What you should have
  • 3–5+ years of professional software engineering experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in Computer Science

  • Experience working with or interest in learning BAML (Boundary ML).

  • Understanding of how LLMs operate, even at a high level (prompting, structured output, model evaluation).

  • Ability to design clean abstractions and build systems that scale across teams.

  • Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating across engineering, product, and operations.

  • A focus on predictability, safety, and maintainability — especially when integrating LLM behaviors.

  • Experience shipping production features in a modern web framework

  • Ability to move quickly and handle multiple concurrent priorities

  • A customer-first mindset and collaborative, positive attitude

  • Comfortable working in a fully remote environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.).

  • Familiarity with schema-based or declarative programming languages.

  • Experience with structured output libraries, guardrails, or validation frameworks.

  • Prior experience building or maintaining internal platforms or integration layers.

  • Previous startup experience

Tools we use
