About Wander

Wander is revolutionizing the $100 B+ short‑term rental industry. We curate every aspect of the guest experience—from our smart homes to our intuitive booking platform. Our mission is to help people find their happy place, and our vision is to create the infrastructure for people to experience the world.

Backed by top‑tier investors and led by experienced startup veterans, we're a tight‑knit, remote‑first team united by our passion for travel, technology, and creating unforgettable experiences.

About the Role

As a Backend TypeScript Engineer, you will architect, build, and scale the foundational APIs and services that power Wander’s platform. You’ll tackle challenges that directly influence how guests discover, book, and enjoy Wander homes while ensuring the platform is resilient as we grow.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, implement, and optimize high‑performance RESTful APIs with Node.js and TypeScript.

  • Model complex domain logic and data flows using Prisma and PostgreSQL.

  • Profile and tune database queries; own performance SLAs across our services.

  • Introduce event‑driven patterns with Redis Streams or Kafka as we evolve our architecture.

  • Integrate LLM‑powered capabilities (OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic) to improve pricing, operations, and customer support.

  • Develop robust observability: structured logging, distributed tracing, and alerting.

  • Participate in code reviews within our repo and help level up peers.

  • Collaborate cross‑functionally on system design and product discovery in an async‑first workflow.

  • Write clean, well‑documented, and thoroughly tested code.

What We’re Looking For
  • 3+ years building production systems with Node.js and TypeScript.

  • Strong grasp of RESTful API design principles; familiarity with gRPC or GraphQL.

  • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL and practical ORM experience (Prisma preferred).

  • Real‑world experience integrating LLM APIs and a solid understanding of prompt engineering concepts.

  • Proficiency with Redis and a clear understanding of caching strategies.

  • Comfort deploying containerized services (Docker/Kubernetes).

  • Experience working in a monorepo (Yarn, Turbo, SWC) and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities, autonomy, and strong written communication.

Bonus Points
  • Background in event‑driven systems (Kafka, NATS, or similar).

  • Experience with real‑time communication (WebSockets, Socket.io).

  • Exposure to serverless runtimes (AWS Lambda, Cloud Functions).

  • Contributions to open‑source projects.

  • Familiarity with Pulumi, Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK stack.

Our Tech Stack
  • Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, Fastify

  • Database/Cache: PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka

  • ORM: Prisma

  • LLM: OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, Langfuse

  • Cloud: GCP

  • Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes

  • Infrastructure‑as‑Code: Pulumi

  • Build: Yarn, Turbo, SWC

  • CI/CD: Github Actions pipelines for continuous integration & deployment

  • Monitoring, Metrics, & Logging: Atatus, Sentry, Axiom

Why Wander?
  • Shape the future of travel tech while helping people find their happy place.

  • Work with a modern stack at a rapidly scaling, product‑obsessed company.

  • Fully remote, async‑first culture – live where you want, work when you work best.

  • Competitive salary plus meaningful equity.

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.

  • 401(k) plan.

  • Clear pathways for career growth and the opportunity to have outsized impact.
