Automation Systems Group

The Automation Systems Group is responsible for the design, construction and support of cutting-edge data center automation and control infrastructure. The department collaborates with Operations, Sales, Engineering, Information Technology and Management to ensure the system continues to fulfill Vantage customer requirements. Automation Systems works closely with partner contractors to come up with the best design and helps manage these partners to success by providing accurate requirements, goals, and timelines. In addition to design and construction, we are also responsible for the technical requirements of the Operations department involving troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing mission critical control systems throughout all Vantage locations.

Position Overview

This role can be remote in the US.

Vantage is looking for a detail-oriented, hands-on Automation Systems Engineer to support Ignition and PLC software development for new construction and sustaining mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role focuses on execution, implementation, and support of automation solutions while working closely with senior engineers and project stakeholders. You will review mechanical and electrical drawings, sequences of operation, and instrumentation diagrams to assist in the development of automation logic and visualization applications. The role supports both new builds and live production systems and contributes to standardization and continuous improvement efforts across the Vantage North America portfolio. You may also assist with troubleshooting, commissioning, and validation of automation systems in live, mission-critical environments.

Essential Job Functions

  • Support and maintain graphics, UDT, and PLC code repositories in accordance with established change management and release processes

  • Collaborate with internal Automation Systems stakeholders, project teams, and contractors to support project delivery and operational goals

  • Follow and contribute to established automation standards, SOPs, and user documentation

  • Assist with development and maintenance of automation logic, data models, UDTs, and visualization standards

  • Support development testing and controlled deployment of new automation applications and updates

  • Assist with commissioning support activities, including software validation, alarming verification, and data integrity checks

Duties

  • Collaborate with Design, Engineering, Construction, Reliability Engineering, Site Operations, and Automation

  • Engineering team members to implement and sustain automation solutions

  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of automation system issues under guidance of senior engineers

  • Develop automation logic and visualization applications based on project documentation including drawings, sequences of operation, bills of material, and instrumentation diagrams

  • Support Ignition gateway deployments and configuration activities following established standards

  • Implement reusable logic and standardized automation components as defined by the team

  • Provide technical input and support to integration team members and staff augmentation resources while operating as an individual contributor

Job Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the Ignition (Inductive Automation) SCADA platform

  • 0-2 years of experience in industrial automation SCADA development

  • Data center experience preferred but not required

  • Understanding of automation systems including control loops, field I/O, and industrial control system fundamentals

  • Experience with industrial PLC platforms, including Rockwell Automation, Carel, or similar systems

  • Familiarity with version control systems and software development best practices preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and follow defined technical standards

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint

  • Travel required up to approximately 25 percent, with potential variation based on business needs
