You will work closely with a variety of skilled software engineers, designers, and product experts to add features, improve scalability, maintain existing systems, and build out future products within the Sure tech ecosystem.

This role is backend-focused, with Python/Django at the core, building APIs and event-driven systems that support documents, communications, rating, and billing. You’ll work on meaningful projects with guidance from senior engineers and mentorship to help you grow into an increasingly independent contributor.

What you'll be doing:

  • Work with relational data and ORMs (e.g. Django) to support backend features and server-side logic
  • Collaborate in technical discussions and design reviews, contributing ideas and asking clarifying questions
  • Participate in pull request reviews, learning from feedback and contributing to CI practices
  • Contribute to team knowledge sharing and documentation (Slack, Notion, Shortcut)
  • Work on features from conception to deployment with mentorship and guidance
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, product managers, QA, and designers on cross-functional projects
  • Participate in agile team processes like sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
  • Support teammates through pair programming and async collaboration
  • Troubleshoot issues and contribute to improving reliability and performance

What we're looking for:

  • 1+ year of experience as a Software Engineer
  • Python preferred, with experience in Django or another modern backend framework (e.g. FastAPI, Flask). We’ll also consider candidates with experience in Ruby, Go, Node.js, Java, or C#.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and HTTP fundamentals
  • Familiarity with relational databases and ORMs (e.g. Django models, SQLAlchemy) to model and query data
  • Experience with version control systems (Git)
  • Exposure to testing practices and debugging techniques
  • Experience working on collaborative software projects (professional, academic, or personal)

Bonus points:

  • Exposure to ORM concepts such as migrations, schema changes, and data modeling
  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms
  • Experience with async/queues/event-driven systems
  • Comfort with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, or deployment workflows
  • Some frontend awareness (React, JS/TS, HTML/CSS)

Who you are:

  • Self-motivated and self-managing; organizes work effectively
  • Curious and eager to learn new systems and domains
  • Positive, solution-oriented, and empathetic
  • Comfortable asking questions and seeking help when needed
  • Inclined toward visibility, inclusion, and collaboration
  • Committed to continual improvement of yourself, your team, and the systems
  • Proactively communicates in both meetings and async (Slack, Notion, Shortcut)
  • Collaborative approach to problem-solving and decision-making
