Associate Dean of Nursing Programs

 

The Associate Dean of the Nursing Programs is the Chief Nursing Administrator on the Denver campus who provides academic, administrative, and leadership to faculty, staff, and students at Denver College of Nursing (DCN).  This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all aspects of prelicensure nursing education to ensure program quality, student success, regulatory compliance, and alignment with the mission, core values, and strategic priorities of DCN. All curriculum and academic policy development and implementation responsibilities are carried out in coordination with the Regional Dean of Nursing to ensure consistency and alignment across the Denver and Houston campuses. This position reports to the College President in coordination with the Regional Dean of Nursing and works collaboratively with campus leadership, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:


  1.  Academic and Program Leadership:
    1. Provides visionary leadership for the planning, design, implementation, evaluation, and revision of prelicensure nursing curricula in accordance with state Board of Nursing regulations and accrediting body standards.
    2. Creates and sustains an academic environment conducive to learning, professionalism, and student success.
    3. Oversees systematic program evaluation processes and ensures findings are incorporated into program improvement.
    4. Ensures compliance with all institutional, state, and accrediting agency requirements in coordination with the Dean of Academic Affairs, Institutional Effectiveness, & Compliance.
  2. Faculty Leadership and Development:
    1. Makes recommendations regarding the hiring, retention, promotion, and termination of faculty and coordinates with the Director of Recruitment, Onboarding, and Professional Development in the faculty recruiting and interviewing process.
    2. Evaluates faculty performance in accordance with college policies and regulatory standards.
    3. Facilitates effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving among faculty.
  3.  Student Leadership and Support:
    1. Provides oversight for student advising processes and resolution of student issues.
    2. Conducts ongoing assessment of student outcomes through class visitation, conferencing, and feedback.
    3. Ensures appropriate documentation related to student performance and conduct.
    4. Encourages student engagement in professional activities, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning.
    5. Follows established Chain of Command in resolving student disputes.
  4.  Administrative and Organizational Stewardship
    1. Serves as the chief nursing administrator on campus and primary liaison to the Regional Dean of Nursing.
    2. Participates in executive, academic, and nursing leadership committees as required.
    3. Serves as a member of, or ex-officio participant with vote as appropriate, on academic and nursing-related committees, including but not limited to:

  2. Conduct Committee
  • Curriculum Committee
  1. Faculty Committee
  2. Resource Committee
  3. Outcomes and Assessment Committee
  • Academic Appeals Committee
  • Academic Senate
    1. Collaborates with campus and system leadership on budgeting, staffing, and strategic initiatives.
    2. Represents the Nursing Programs in external agency meetings and community partnerships.
    3. Assists with student recruitment, marketing communications, and community outreach activities.
    4. Adheres to all College policies, procedures, and expectations outlined in the catalog and employee handbooks.
  1. Other Duties
    1. Performs other duties as assigned by the College President or the Regional Dean of Nursing or College leadership.

 

Qualifications

 

  1. Master of Science in Nursing degree required, doctoral degree in Nursing or a related health or education field is preferred
  2. Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  3. Current, active, unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Colorado or compact state privilege.
  4. Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing practice experience.
  5. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in nursing education.
  6. Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in a nursing administrative or management role.
  7. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  8. Competency in personal computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email.
  9. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and faculty population in a fast-paced environment.

Classification


The Associate Dean of Nursing Programs is an exempt, full-time position.  Work hours may vary daily, and some weekend hours may be required.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements


To perform the essential functions of this position, the Associate Dean of Nursing must be able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, talk, hear, and operate computers and audiovisual equipment. Occasional lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying of materials or equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.


Pay range:  $115,000 - $135,000
