Yahoo Finance is looking for an Associate Content Engagement Editor to help shape the daily presentation, packaging and performance of our journalism across desktop, mobile web and app surfaces. This role will own real-time programming decisions, optimize how stories show up across platforms, and craft alerts and headlines that help audiences quickly understand why a story matters to their money. Success in this role will be measured in part by the ability to grow traffic and engagement across Yahoo Finance surfaces.

The right person has strong news judgment, sharp presentation instincts (visuals, headlines, etc.) and a deep interest in markets, business, investing and personal finance. You know how to identify the biggest story in the moment, frame it clearly for broad audiences, and package it in a way that drives engagement without losing accuracy or trust.

This position requires a consistent weekend schedule.

Possible shifts (all times ET):

Shift 1: 7:00a–3:30p, Thu/Fri off (30-minute break)

Shift 2: 12:00p–8:30p, Mon/Tue off (30-minute break)

What You’ll Do

  • Program Yahoo Finance desktop, mobile web, and app experiences with a focus on breaking news, markets coverage, analysis, personal finance, and major tentpole moments.

  • Optimize story placement, headlines, thumbnails, framing, and recirculation to improve engagement and keep Yahoo Finance feeling essential throughout the day. This includes pairing stories with strong visuals and iterating on image selection as stories develop and audience signals come in.

  • Collaborate with approved AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc) to draft, iterate, and optimize high-impact alternative SEO headlines  and mobile alerts, 

  • Write, edit, and send mobile alerts that are timely, accurate, and useful, translating complex financial news into clear, urgent language for broad audiences.

  • Use analytics and internal AI-driven audience recommendation systems to inform programming decisions across story placement, headline framing, recirculation, and alert strategy as news shifts, sharing and applying insights with colleagues throughout the day.

  • Partner closely with editors, reporters, video, social, product, and analytics teams to align programming decisions with the biggest editorial priorities and audience opportunities.

  • Contribute to a fast, test-and-learn culture where strong editorial judgment is paired with performance data, automation, and continuous experimentation.

  • Work closely with the video teams to identify compelling content and storylines and help surface, package, and distribute them across Yahoo Finance platforms.

Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of experience working as an editor at a media organization, with experience in digital media, newsroom programming, audience development, or homepage editing.

  • Strong editorial judgment and experience making real-time framing decisions in a high-velocity news environment.

  • Professional experience with headline writing, content curation, copy editing, SEO, and Google Trends.

  • A commitment to following finance news closely and understanding how major stories affect everyday users as well as active investors.

  • A sharp instinct for packaging journalism in ways that drive clicks, engagement, and loyalty without sacrificing clarity or trust.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing generative AI applications (e.g., Google Gemini, ChatGPT) for structured prompt engineering, copy refinement, and creative brainstorming.

  • Strong competency in human-in-the-loop editorial governance, showcasing the critical thinking required to validate, fact-check, and refine AI-generated text outputs to ensure they align with brand style and voice guidelines.

  • An AI-forward mindset with an active interest in identifying repetitive, manual workflow tasks and designing automated or AI-assisted alternatives to increase editorial speed.

  • Strong collaboration skills and a calm, solutions-oriented approach during big news moments.

  • Experience working closely with SEO teams to improve search performance; familiarity with Editorial SEO and tools like Google Trends is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in financial journalism, personal finance, investing, or business news.

  • Comprehensive understanding of editorial best practices and style guides.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience

The compensation for this position ranges from $56,250.00 - $117,500.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
