Position in this function supports the Optum Insight and Optum Financial businesses in the design, development, implementation and administration of compensation programs related to base salary, annual cash bonus plans, rewards and recognition initiatives, sales compensation, and equity compensation. Staying ahead of market trends and providing proactive solutions to help drive key business initiatives and priorities.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Act as an internal and external consultant to the business, responsible for building solid relationships with leaders of each business to ensure effective compensation solutions and strengthen engagement
  • Works directly with People Business Partners on complex field-initiated projects to drive business results, generally with no oversight
  • Work with the leadership in Compensation to proactively identify value added compensation initiatives
  • Assist in the design of new and/or revised incentive or reward and recognition programs. Ensures programs and plans are competitive, cost effective, drive and reward a high-performance culture and are aligned with UnitedHealth Group's current and future strategic direction
  • Work with leadership in Compensation to lead annual common review process, including planning, communications, analysis and management of key process areas
  • Works on the most complex compensation projects. Independently drives and completes the projects with little to no oversight
  • Independently leads mergers and acquisition efforts to include due diligence and integration activities
  • Evaluates new jobs for appropriate title and grade, typically at the manager and director levels
  • Remain abreast of best practices and thought in the compensation field
  • Design and deliver training to managers, Business partners and associates

Required Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of compensation experience. Includes business acumen and an understanding of people team practices
  • Demonstrated experience in leading complex and longer-term projects to completion
  • Specific technical expertise in compensation theory and best practices
  • Proven solid history of quickly building relationships and gaining credibility with people team and business sr. management
  • Demonstrated solid project management skills, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple competing priorities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional certifications, such as CCP
  • Experience working in human resources shared service delivery model
  • Experience working in a matrix environment
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft or comparable ERP System
  • Solid technical background with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to lead and work effectively within teams and across the organization
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor others

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
