Job/Role Description

As an Analytics Engineer at Phamily, you’ll transform raw healthcare data into trusted insights that drive smarter decisions across our organization. You’ll design clean, scalable data models, build a governed semantic layer in Looker, and empower teams to self-serve key business metrics. Beyond pipelines and dashboards, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring data quality, protecting sensitive health information, and enabling our product, clinical, and operations teams to act on insights confidently.

This is a highly visible role where you’ll shape how data fuels proactive healthcare, directly advancing Phamily’s mission to improve outcomes and reduce costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain dbt models (staging → marts) with clear ownership, documentation, and testing.
  • Build and manage the Looker semantic layer, including Explores, governed metrics, and dashboards for self-serve analytics.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business questions into clear, reusable data products and insights.
  • Ensure data quality and trust by implementing tests, observability, and data freshness monitoring.
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis and decision support for product, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Create playbooks, host office hours, and train non-technical users to confidently leverage Looker.
  • Protect PHI with strong permissioning, governance, and secure defaults.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in analytics engineering or data analytics, with strong SQL skills.
  • Hands-on experience with dbt (models, tests, docs) and Looker (LookML, Explores, dashboards).
  • Proven ability to model for cloud data warehouses (BigQuery preferred) and manage version control (Git).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate vague questions into actionable metrics.
  • Experience working with sensitive healthcare data and applying appropriate governance practices.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Python for analysis/automation and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Bonus: Knowledge of healthcare analytics (claims, clinical, or patient engagement data).

Our Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
  • Potential to earn equity based on performance
  • Remote-friendly work environment
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents at a nominal cost
  • Paid maternity leave
  • FSA and Dependent Care account options
  • 401(k) eligibility after 6 months of full-time employment
  • Collaborative, mission-driven work environment

If you take pride in delivering results, embrace challenges, and proactively seek improvement, then this is the place for you. You’ll join a smart, humble, and collaborative team dedicated to improving healthcare.
