Bloomberg Government is seeking an Albany-based correspondent to dig into the people and policies driving New York’s state government for a national audience. You’ll cover the legislature for government and legal audiences, break news and explain the effects of government action. You’ll write about budget and spending, energy and environment, technology and other issues as they arise. You’ll also have opportunities to write about AI policy in New York and other states across the country. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, move fast and write in a clear and engaging way.
Report and write news articles and breaking news alerts, often on deadline.
Cover news as it happens, live and in person, including at courthouses, state legislatures, and other strategic locations within your assigned region.
Pitch, develop and write analytical pieces and feature stories on complicated subjects like tax and legal developments, making them accessible to readers
Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
Establish strategic relationships with sources, editors, news desk, etc.
Serve as a resource for other correspondents and Washington based reporters.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
You need to have:
Bachelor’s degree with coursework in English or journalism preferred.
8-12 years’ experience in journalism, including at least one year reporting on subject areas covered by assigned publications.
Demonstrated knowledge of journalism principles and techniques.
Knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
The ability to cover events live as they happen and meet with sources in-person within the location being covered.
Please note, This role will be on-site 4 days per week at the Albany State House
