Cooley is seeking an AI/ML Architect to join the Practice Engineering team within the Innovation department.

Position summary: As a leading technology law firm, Cooley is determined to become a leader in the digital practice of law. Cooley Innovation embraces a culture of customer service excellence and all members of the department are expected to move this agenda forward.  To that end, the Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (“AI/ML”) Architect will lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions across Azure, AWS, and other emerging cloud and hybrid platforms. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic architecture leadership, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performing AI/ML capabilities.  Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

  • Design and implement end-to-end AI/ML architectures across Azure, AWS, and other platforms to support enterprise-scale solutions
  • Partner with engineering and business teams to translate requirements into scalable ML and AI solutions
  • Establish and enforce architecture standards, governance, and best practices for AI/ML solutions
  • Optimize performance, scalability, and cost efficiency of cloud-based AI/ML workloads
  • Integrate AI/ML solutions with enterprise data platforms (e.g., data lakes, warehouses)
  • Ensure solutions adhere to security, compliance, and data privacy standards
  • Stay current with industry trends and innovations in AI, ML, and cloud-native architectures
  • Evaluate and recommend cloud services, tools, and frameworks for AI/ML, including emerging technologies
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 5+ years directly applicable experience (e.g., AI/ML architecture experience). Senior candidates must have 7+ years' directly applicable experience.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking in day-to-day tasks
  • Hands-on experience architecting AI/ML solutions on Azure and/or AWS
  • Experienced in integrating AI/ML workloads with enterprise data sources (data lakes, warehouses, APIs, or streaming)
  • Understanding of cloud security, governance, and data privacy standards

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or related discipline

Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE.

The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $155,000 - $220,000. Senior level candidates may be considered for this position and would be eligible for a higher salary range based on experience. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
