AI Enablement Specialist InternLocation: Remote / US
Kong's IT team is building a new internal capability dedicated to putting AI to work across every part of the company. We're looking for an intern to join that team — someone who's already curious about AI, likes figuring out how things work, and wants professional experience doing something genuinely new.
You'll contribute to real projects under close mentorship from senior practitioners. By the end of the internship, you'll have built something that actually gets used — a tool, workflow, or improvement that a Kong team continues to rely on after you're gone. That's the bar we set, and we'll give you the support to meet it.
What you'll do:Research specific business workflows and document where AI tools could reduce friction or improve output quality.
Build simple automations and prompt-based tools under close guidance, and refine them based on feedback from the teams using them.
Sit in on coaching sessions with business team members and help facilitate hands-on practice with AI tools.
Maintain organized documentation for tools, workflows, and team learnings — keeping the team's knowledge base current and accessible.
Evaluate new AI tools and platforms and write clear, concise summaries of what they do and whether they're relevant to Kong's needs.
Complete a defined capstone project: design and deliver a working AI tool or workflow improvement for a specific Kong business team.
Minimum Requirements
Currently enrolled in a degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology, or a related field.
Regular, hands-on use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) — and genuine curiosity about what's happening under the hood.
Strong writing skills: you can describe what a tool does, why it matters, and how to use it in terms a non-technical colleague would understand.
Willingness to ask questions, take direction, and show up prepared.
Preferred Qualifications
Any experience with APIs, scripting, or automation tools (Python, JavaScript, n8n, Zapier, Make, or similar) — even through coursework or personal projects.
Prior internship or project experience in a technology, operations, or data-related role.
Familiarity with common enterprise platforms such as Okta, Slack, Google Workspace, or Jira.
Interest in API management, developer tooling, or how AI models plug into enterprise systems — knowledge of Kong Konnect is a bonus.
Kong sells the picks and shovels of the AI era — the API and AI gateway infrastructure that lets enterprises connect, secure, and govern every application and AI model in their stack. Our products (Kong Gateway, Konnect, and AI Gateway) are used by thousands of organizations worldwide to power their most critical digital workflows.
The people who join this team get something rare: the chance to drive an AI transformation from the inside of a company that literally builds AI infrastructure. You'll have visibility across every business function, genuine ownership over your work, and a direct line from your tools to measurable company impact. No bureaucracy, no busy work — just real problems and the resources to solve them.
We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, flexible remote-first work, and a lean culture that values people who take initiative and get things done.
