As a Finance Manager, you'll lead financial planning, manage media expenditure, ensure financial compliance, and innovate financial processes for accuracy and efficiency.
We’re looking for a Finance Manager to join our Operations Area.
When you come work with us, here’s what you’ll find:
- Work that is meaningful. We are a fast-paced, deadline-driven consulting firm that only works with nonprofit clients who are essential to advancing the cause of justice, alleviating suffering, and solving the greatest challenges we face.
- Commitment to Anti-Racism, Equity, and Inclusion (AEI). We envision an anti-oppressive workplace that ensures an inclusive employee experience, promotes equitable outcomes for staff, and supports clients to center accessibility and anti-racism in their programs.
- Colleagues you can count on. Kind, dedicated, passionate people who work collaboratively to get things done and help you do your best.
- An organization that embraces change. We strive to improve and adapt and always seek new ways that we can contribute to a just, inclusive, and sustainable world. We are also continually working on making M+R a better place for our staff.
So that’s us. Now about the work:
- The Finance Manager is part of our Shared Services Area -- composed of five specializations: finance, operations, people, marketing, and AEI. We ensure M+R is positioned to deliver outstanding services to clients such as Planned Parenthood, Feeding America, International Rescue Committee, NRDC, and many more.
- Day-to-day, we focus on legal and regulatory compliance and risk management, and operational policies and procedures, contract processing, and IT tools and security.
Here’s what you’ll be doing in this role:
- Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
- Lead the development of the annual media budgeting process and quarterly financial forecast tracking in partnership with the Media Planning team.
- Manage the monthly financial close process for media spend, ensuring accuracy and proper expense recognition.
- Provide variance analysis of actual spend versus budget/forecast to the FP&A Manager and Advertising Team.
- Order to Cash Cycle Management & Optimization:
- Oversee and manage monthly media expenditure, including the processing and accurate GL coding of approximately 300 vendor invoices per month.
- Perform timely reconciliation of media plans against actual spend to ensure accuracy.
- Proactively provide real-time media spend balances to the Advertising team, ensuring they have immediate and accurate awareness of available-to-spend budgets for timely decision-making.
- Timely review of media balances with the Media Director, ensuring it aligns with budget constraints and strategic financial targets.
- Develop financial models and reporting to track key performance indicators (KPIs), including preparing burn reports.
- Analyze and optimize the existing media spend tracking process to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and timeliness of reconciliation.
- Quality control of media buys (product names, PO’s, I/O’s, system set up, etc.).
- Partnership & Reporting:
- Act as the primary financial liaison for Advertising leadership and finance.
- Prepare and present executive-level reporting on media spend and performance.
- Directly support the Advertising team on day-to-day finance support.
- Participate in internal and external audit support as required.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement improvements to media financial processes, reporting tools, and control environments to enhance efficiency, accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
- Track real-time spending against original estimates, providing early-warning signals when projects risk going over budget.
Skills and experiences required for this role:
- 7-9 years of progressive experience in Accounting or Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), preferably within a company with significant marketing or media spend, or at a media agency.
- Proven experience working directly with marketing, advertising, or media planning teams or alternatively the ability to timely manage high-volume of financial operations, including processing invoices and reconciling project budgets against actual spend.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (financial modeling, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, powerqueries) and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency in Google Suite products.
- Experience with financial planning software, Accounting Software and AP invoices processing systems.
- Experience utilizing BI tools (e.g., Tableau) and media planning software is a plus.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex financial concepts to non-finance audiences.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Skills and experiences that are preferred, but not required:
- Experience with Workday Adaptive, Sage Intacct, and PaperSave
Salary and Benefits:
- This is an exempt status position. The salary for this position is $113,891. As part of M+R’s commitment to compensation equity and transparency, we have a no-negotiation policy. Salary negotiations can introduce bias and perpetuate wage inequality. - A 36-hour workweek with half-day Fridays and scheduling flexibility;
