About the Position:

Williamsburg Adventures is seeking passionate outdoor and leadership mentors to guide students through enriching experiences in our Outdoor and Leadership Adventures courses across designated locations in Colorado.

The Outdoor Adventures course is an in-person, experiential PE class offered in partnership with Williamsburg Academy for students in grades 6–12. Participants engage in a variety of hands-on activities such as rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing, skiing, survival skills, first aid, outdoor games, and more, all while earning PE credit.

The Leadership Adventures course focuses on developing students’ leadership abilities through immersive, real-world experiences. Students earn elective leadership credit by participating in activities such as visiting museums and colleges, going on field trips, completing service projects, and practicing leadership through simulations and group challenges.

•This position will start at the end of July.

Adventure Guides will be responsible for the following:

Assist with Facilitating Transformational Learning Experiences
•Adventures Guides will be trained on the Williamsburg Adventures formula for infusing each experience with meaning.
•Adventures Guides need to be comfortable participating in 1:1 and group discussions and processing before, during, and after an activity. 
•Adventures Guides are required to attend all online and in-person trainings as a requirement of this position. A schedule of trainings will be provided in advance of the school year.

Inspire, Challenge, and Engage Students
•Roaming Guides will support different groups throughout the semester, responding to each group's varying needs. They will also be available for last-minute substitutions if a lead or guide is unavailable due to illness.
•Roaming Guides assist Adventures Leads during 15 events per semester, held on predetermined Fridays, by guiding students, leading discussions, managing attendance, and assisting with games and activities.
•Roaming Guides are expected to arrive 30 minutes early, help with cleanup, and care for equipment. Most adventures run 2-5 hours between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Follow the Direction of Adventures Leads to Ensure Student Safety
•Adventures courses will involve large groups of students.
•Adventures Guides will support Adventures Leads in their responsibility to oversee the safety of students between drop-off and pick-up. 
•Adventures Guides report to the Adventures Leads in each respective geographical area.

Represent WL in a Positive Manner During all Activities/Trips
• Adventure guides should conduct themselves so that they earn the full trust of the group by serving as role models to students and fostering a sense of belonging among them at each adventure.
•Adventures Guides extend their influence and contribute to a sense of community. Communication with colleagues, parents, and students is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 18 years old AND 1 full year post high-school
  • Outdoor and leadership experience preferred
  • Current first aid & CPR certification
  • Valid and current driver’s license
  • Excellent administrative skills (planning, organizing, communication)

  • Ability to:
  • Provide transformational mentoring to youth
  • Be vulnerable and authentic
  • Show energy and enthusiasm for being in the outdoors and challenging oneself in various settings
  • Pass background check
  • Adventures Guides must be able to use various programs (SIS, Canvas, Zoom, Abacus, google suite); you will be trained on these

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in similar leadership and outdoor programs.
  • Experience working with students in grades 6-12.

Physical Abilities

  • This position requires physical agility and stamina.
  • Walking, hiking, running, standing, lifting, and bending will be a routine part of this position.
  • Employees will need to be able to keep visual cues on students and be able to hear them.
  • Guides must be physically able to facilitate and lead students safely on adventures in various settings.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Pay rate is $5,000 per school year.
  • Mileage reimbursement is the current IRS rate of .07 per mile.
  • This position will start July 2025, for the 25/26 school year.
  • This is a part-time position, 5 hours per week, with most of the hours taking place on Adventure Fridays during normal school hours. Most adventures are 2-5 hours in length.  The majority of the job will be performed on Fridays. The typical time spent per week for the position will be under 5 hours.
