What’s the Opportunity?
The Accounting Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures for the company’s accounting cycle and month-end close to ensure compliance Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). In addition, the Accounting Manager is responsible for providing ad-hoc analysis and reporting as necessary to support improved margins, process efficiencies and other company initiatives. The Accounting Manager works in conjunction with the Project Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller and CFO to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This position is highly visible and requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and direct the company’s accounting team and influence key stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and provide day-to-day guidance for a team of accountants that perform accounting and financial activities to prepare accurate and timely financial statements.
- Oversee timely reporting of all state and local use tax returns and participate in the management of federal and state income tax returns.
- Coordinate with the Financial Planning & Analysis team on the creation and maintenance of general ledger accounts and financial reporting.
- Coordinate with the Project Accounting Manager on ensuring proper project financial reporting.
- Assist in the month-end close process by ensuring all accounting entries are posted timely and within the proper reporting period, including journal entries, accruals, estimates, client bills, vendor invoices, payments and deposits.
- Support project and senior management with ad-hoc analysis of activities such as contract pricing, utilization, accounts receivable, accounts payable and project financials.
- Review financial transactions on a regular basis ensuring data quality and accuracy.
- Complete research on new and upcoming accounting guidance and provide analysis on its impact on the company’s financial statements and processes.
- Lead and/or participate in various process improvement initiatives within the finance organization, or in coordination with other project and management teams in the company.
- Assist in the development of project and accounting policies and procedures and provide training to finance and other company employees on a regular basis.
- Support various audit activities (year-end audit, overhead rate audit, etc.) throughout the year.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
What Are We Looking For?
Ideal candidates will have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field
- Seeking relevant advanced education or professional certifications such as a master’s degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
- 8+ years of experience
- Excellent communication, time management, problem solving skills.
- Full cycle accounting and/or invoicing experience for an A/E firm or similar industry
- BST experience or a project-based financials system
