The role supports the production of accessible educational resources that enable Veterans, trauma survivors, caregivers, healthcare providers, and the general public—including individuals with disabilities—to access evidence-based information about trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), effective treatments, and co-occurring conditions.

Working collaboratively with project managers, video producers, scriptwriters, technical writers/editors, graphic designers, videographers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and Government stakeholders, the Section 508 Compliance Specialist integrates accessibility requirements throughout the content development lifecycle. The Specialist ensures that educational materials maintain the National Center for PTSD's commitment to accessibility, plain language, scientific accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and trauma-informed communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review digital products, educational videos, documents, websites, and multimedia content to ensure compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and applicable Federal accessibility standards.
  • Evaluate educational materials for accessibility throughout the content development lifecycle, including planning, design, production, testing, and final delivery.
  • Verify that multimedia products include appropriate accessibility features, such as synchronized captions, transcripts, audio descriptions (when required), accessible media controls, and keyboard accessibility.
  • Review electronic documents, presentations, reports, training materials, brochures, and other communication products for accessibility and compliance with established standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, video producers, scriptwriters, graphic designers, videographers, technical writers/editors, and Government stakeholders to identify and resolve accessibility issues.
  • Conduct accessibility testing using manual review techniques and industry-standard accessibility evaluation tools.
  • Document accessibility findings, recommend corrective actions, and verify remediation prior to final Government acceptance.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to project teams regarding Section 508 requirements, accessible document development, multimedia accessibility, and best practices.
  • Ensure accessibility requirements are incorporated into project plans, production workflows, quality assurance processes, and deliverables.
  • Maintain documentation of accessibility reviews, testing results, remediation activities, and compliance status.
  • Monitor updates to Federal accessibility requirements, Section 508 standards, and applicable accessibility guidance, and recommend process improvements as appropriate.
  • Support quality assurance activities to ensure final deliverables satisfy contractual accessibility requirements before submission to the Government.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Communications, Digital Media, Accessibility, Human-Computer Interaction, Education, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting Section 508 compliance or digital accessibility initiatives relevant to the requirements of this task order.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and remediating digital content for compliance with Federal accessibility standards.

Benefits
  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Short Term & Long Term Disability
  • Training & Development
